A couple from our midday stroll yesterday..
Eyes streaming and felt like we’d chained a pack of Marlboro reds..
We’re in Paynesville btw, just south of the carnage. Today will be make or break for this area I think. Not got anywhere we can really go right now and our next stop is Canberra which is sorta safer but smokier. Can’t wait to get to the coast with our mates.
As the old saying goes ‘may you live in interesting times’ it’s not ruined our holiday but it’s opened our eyes seeing the reality up close.

Fun eh? Imagine growing up with that shit. Really puts a damper on everything.
Remember though. There are many many sects, many interpretations and many ideologies. No wonder the infighting started on day one and hasn't stopped since.

Fuck. Looks like end times. I suppose it’s good that you’re near water but that’s polishing a turd.

Thanks for the offer bro but I think we’re good for now. Air quality has improved massively here today and we’re leaving the area soon anyway. Adelaide is tempting but it’s the opposite direction to where we’re headed.
To be honest we’ve fallen in love with the place despite it’s faults so will be back soon enough I’m sure and we def want to head over your direction next time. -

Kangaroo island is getting really hit by the fires. It's so so very sad. A pristine wildlife sanctuary in the west of the island, some species only found in that area only surviving on the Eucalypts found only there ... all gone. It's devastating.

My dad lives just on the east edge of the massive fire south of Nowra. The current advice from the fire service is:
It is too late to leave. Seek shelter as the fire approaches. Seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
Monitor the conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.
Be alert to embers and spot fires. They have been evacuated to the community centre for the second time this week. A few hours ago the southerly wind change came through with gusts up to 50mph. The temperature dropped from 40 degrees to 22. It is now the middle of the night so they won't know if the house is OK until tomorrow.

Hope your dad is safe and that his house survives somehow.

^^ thanks. I just spoke to my Dad. He was up all night in case they had to move again. The house has survived the night but there is no power to make cups of tea or re-charge the phones. They are better off than many other people but still pretty frightening for someone aged 99 with very little eyesight. The fire service had done some back burning around the housing area last week so there is less fresh fuel if the fires come back again.

On reddit I see yanks cheering how killing Suleiman was a great blow to ISIS.
I am reminded of the early 00's when a top US guy (Wolfowitz?) thought Taliban were shiites and most likely were helping Al-Sadr with his insurgency. -

I also think there will be a few people out there who will think twice about certain activities given the US has now put them on notice that they will strike leadership not just foot soldiers and mid-level.
Bullshit. It'll make them more convinced that the U.S. is an enemy they have to attack.
