  • It’s not the one I gave away yesterday, is it? 😅

  • lol no. it was in manchester probably spring or summer this year. full of pet hair in the mechanisms

  • I thought not, coz the one I gave away come with all the ink that should be good for hundreds of pages...

  • Keyboard

    this looks very nice!

is it very nice to use as well?

  • I updated somebody's Windows machine to Win10 and wrestled with the search bar / Edge, as mentioned upthread.
Couldn't get the real Edge back, but found a beta and installed that so now the stupid web search results do function again.

Thing is, as mentioned, they only ever want to search for files on their local drive and they can do that like with Win7 (just typing in the search bar and stuff that matches shows up) - yet now with the Win10 just a few of the files show up.
They have, say 40 different Excel files with the same name but different date suffix in the file name - and search brings up a couple of them, sorts chronologically - but omits, say, the six most recent ones. Wtf. When you go in the folder that contains them they're all there.
    Am I missing something obvious?

  • I love it and hate it depends on what I am doing. This is my first mechnical keyboard so I am not used to the much deeper keys and the sound it makes. I have been a life long Mac users so I am much more used to the Mac keyboards with much shallower keys.

Objectively speaking though, I think it is a very nice keyboard, I am thinking of getting a palm rest, which is something I have never used in my life, because the keyboard is a lot thicker than most keyboard out there. In fact, the company recommends a palm rest. Why so thick? Because the batter is larger than average... The problem is there is no battery indicator so I don't know how long it actually last in real life, so I just charge it when I charge my mouse, which is probably OOT...

But yeah, overall, I enjoy using it when I am not annoyed by the sound, but then it's not the keyboard's fault as all mechnical keyboard make the same sort of sound, I already chose the quieter keys... not sure if it's any better than any other mechnical / gaming keybaords out there.

Having saying all this, I am considering buying a USB wireless keyboard or a longer cable for this keyboard (becaucse my machine is about a good 1.5 away from where I sit). It would seem there is a bug with the Bluetooth on Win 10 - the Bluetooth keeps discounting for micro seconds, so I consantly have to wake up the keyboard even just after not typing for a little as a min, which is perfectly normal if you are looking at something.... I initially thought it was the keyboard but I never had the same issue with it was paired with my Mac and obviously I have now tested it with my Bluetooth mouse and have done some Internet search... The only way to resolve it is to restart the computer... I have had this machine for 2 weeks and I have had to restart it 4 times so far because of this.

I was watching the Device Manager the other day and OMG, it kept flashing every few seconds and the status of both my keyboard and Bluetooh mouse kept changing from paired to connected... it was well weird. I hope there is a fix soon...

  • And by the way, whilst it comes with the Win /cmd keys and a couple of other keys to allow you to swtich between Win / Mac layouts, they have forgotten the @ is the ' key on Win so there ain't @ as the ' key and " as the 2 key for you to switch, which might bother some people... I don't know, I get confused sometimes simply because of my Mac background...

  • I have a couple questions and they might be some of those weird ones:

So my case has 2 USB ports at the front and they both work. One has the USB receiver for my mouse plugged in and the other one is free. When I plug in a USB stick, it reads my USB fine but my mouse would stop working...

When I plug in another USB receiver or a wired keyboard to the other USB port, both devices work perfectly fine.

    Any idea?

I wanted to move the USB receiver to the ports at the back, but for some strange reasons, the connection becomes really bad, but the distance is about the same. My tower sits on top of a set of drawers, the same height as my deak and the tower is about 1.5m away from my keyboard / mouse. Would it be because the ports at the back are facing a wall?

  • A 3m long USB extension cable could bring the receiver to the back of the desk. Closer and probably less shielding/noise to contend with.

  • https://www.stinkyinkshop.co.uk/ is the Which? recommended aftermarket ink supplier - I ended up having to figure out a good one after being sold aftermarket ink that failed. I've only bought one cartridge from them so far but it's all good.

  • Crikey you're not having much luck with this PC are you?!

A USB cable is a bodge that would annoy me. You said

It would seem there is a bug with the Bluetooth on Win 10

But there's not I'm afraid - at least there might be but I use Win 10 bluetooth with no problems as do many other people. I think the problem is the on board bluetooth on your motherboard.

Buy a USB v4 bluetooth adapter and disable your onboard bluetooth. They cost less than a tenner and the worst case is you'll know the bluetooth chip on your motherboard isn't the problem but I suspect it is. If it is and a USB adapter works fine you can connect a mouse via bluetooth...

  • Would it be because the ports at the back are facing a wall?

Very unlikely and any mouse should cope with that distance. What mouse is it?

  • Thanks, feel less inclined to buy one now!
    : D

  • cheers. I ended up using check emails INKredible.co.uk. stinkyink doesn't appear to do aftermarket ones for my printer.

  • I am having issues with windows 10 picking up my mp3 player, have checked usb cable is working, tried different usb slots

anyone know any fixes or work arounds to switch on or activate usb slot so it recognises the player when it's turned on

mp3 player cowon plenue d2 have visited cowons website for any downloads have updated all drivers via easydriver but nothing is happening

  • It would seem there is a bug with the Bluetooth on Win 10 - the Bluetooth keeps discounting for micro seconds, so I consantly have to wake up the keyboard even just after not typing for a little as a min,

As Fox says, this sounds like a specific issue with your machine rather than Bluetooth/Win10. I'm running multiple machines with Bluetooth/Win10 with no issues.

  • Does it normally show up as a mass storage device? It's possible that it isn't being assigned a drive letter or something.

Right click on "This PC", select "Manage" and then select Storage->Disk Management and see if it is showing up there.

Also look under "Device Manager" and see if you have any devices with an exclamation mark next to them.

  • it's not being picked up in any of those actions aggi, thanks for the advice by the way

switched it on and off and on, re booted while mp3 player was plugged in and switched on

I've been through a load of online suggestions too but nothing seems to be working, I have uploaded music to the player in the past and am charging it via the usb lead so all seems fine from the mp3 player point of view, pc seems to be the issue,
i'm fully up to date with windows updates etc

    pc is
c: drive .........…. the new ssd drive I installed
d : drive .............. the old c drive and original c drive from the computer
e: cd .........….dvd read write drive,

no other storage devices are being picked up

  • as soon as I re plug my usb keyboard or mouse in the same usb slots they are picked up immediately by usb wizard

  • No, not a lot of luck with the machine I am afraid... but I have just spoken to overclockers on the phone and they told me to update the MSI bluetooth drive to see if that'd solve the problem. I hope so...

I will also get a Bluetooth adaptor as well to test it.

Failing both, it would be a case of swapping the motherboard.

Also with regards to the USB ports at the front, @Fox is probably right as OCUK also think it might be a damaged pin on the cable that is pluged into the ports, which would require sending the machine back to them to swap out the mothoerboard. But to be hoenst, I am not sure if I can be bothered with all the faff for just the USB ports that I proabably won't use that often at the same time. Or I might send it back towards the end of the 3 years warranty period and take the opportunity to upgrade some parts as well...

At this rate, something else is going to go wrong, right? So I might as well wait for an epic fail and get everything fixed at once? Right? What's next? The fans? Memory fails? The CPU overheats and breaks? A very rare AIO cooler leakage? Bring on 2020! :-(

I am loving this new PC era of mine!

  • Quality control is everything when it comes to custom PCs.

I'm sure you'll sort it out in the end.

EDIT: If OC do a 24 hour burn in test as part of their QC like Scan does, memory and CPU problems are unlikely.

  • By the way, a big shout out to OCUK, you might remember from a few pages back that I was set to get my machine from Scan due to good reviews and recommendations, but they were fucking with me on my qoute and the very ruder people on the phone didn't give a shit about my trying to actually place an order, so I went to OCUK despites some good friends warned me that OCUK don't always honour their warranty promises etc etc...

But so far their customer servcice has been top notch - it's not just the phone call today with a bit of advice, I was also in conversation with them on and off since the machine has arrived because there is a slight issue with the case itself, it isn't broken or anything, but because of the cooler I have installed on the top, the top panels now can't be used and as a result dust can goes stright onto the motherboard... Anyway, both of us thought there is a filter provided with the case as standard, but as it turns out, Fractal doesn't do it for some of their cases, which is something that neither OCUK nor myself realised... long story short, they have now sent me various after market snap filters to use free of charge and have given me a partial refund for the case. They offered to swap to another case and if it's a more expensive case, I wouldn't have to top it up, but I didn't want the faff so we went for the aftermarket solution.

I know it's a small thing, but they could have just said I didn't read the specs of all the parts properly and wash their hands of off the whole thing.

So far so impressed, I guess the real test of just how good they are would be if I decide to send the machine back to swap out the motherboard or if another expensive parts break, would they be as easy with the whole process... ??? We will see... but in a way, I hope I will never have to find out...

  • I am sure they do very similar tests to Scan, I have a report here and it says "Front panel connected and functioning normally including USBs and Audio". I mean if they plug in 2 keyboards or whatnot then these USBs indeed do function normally...

I don't know how easy it is for someone to spot a missing pin or 2 if they are not looking for it specifically?

As for the bluetooth issues, it is intermittent so I guess it would have been hard for anyone to catch it...

I am not making excuses for them by the way, I am just wishing thinking hoping nothing else will go wrong as I can reasonably live with both these issues...

  • The mouse is a very old Logitech mouse... I think my new MX Master is connected alright as I have now switched it to USB instead of Bluetooth...

  • I can't see how the USB thing is a hardware problem if it's fine with everything except one particular mouse.
