  • Gonna keep an eye out for another nice small footprint delay to replace the lilac chungus that is the Danecho. Idea is to have one set for a tight slapback and another for something more psych and boingy.

  • Interested in the reasons for Fuzz -> Drive -> Distortion.

I’ve always gone in descending order of dirt, i.e. Fuzz -> Distortion -> Drive -> Boost -> Pre-amp. (Not necessarily all at the same time...)
    Am I doing it wrong?

  • No! I've just settled on what sounds good to me.

Fuzz first because germanium fuzz wants to see/receive the unbuffered output from your guitar. For ages I had it after a TU2 which has a buffer and the fuzz sounded shrill and thin. Did some reading and figured out that gemanium fuzz needs to go first. That changed my relationship with the Fuzz Factory, after ages of not being able to get a sound that I liked out of it I now love it.

As for drive into distortion, it's just preference. My thought process has always been to push a dirty pedal by having the cleaner ones providing more signal into them. I used to use a clean boost into a TS9 like this. With that set up you could have clean, clean plus clean boost. Then I'd use the TS9 for main crunch sound with boost off and add in the clean boost in front of the TS9 which would push it into high gain singing sustain territory.

My current set up is similar with the exception of fuzz coming first as per above. I have parallel compression (Tone Press) set to mild signal boost into mid humpy medium gain O/D (Klone) aping the set-up mentioned above, then I have Distortion (RAT) set with medium low gain as well so that when I pile the boost and OD into that it goes full-bore, but doesn't fall apart into mush.

That's the theory anyway. Haven't tried it at gig volume level yet....

  • Unintentional pedal purchase... I really need to stay off Marketplace...

  • Niiiice! I need me one of them.

  • The guy wanted $350 posted, I offered him $300 and he went for it... Can't complain... It's a 90s one, nice to have the box as well... Bit of bubbling but that's okay, it's gonna get played!!

  • Vibrolux is making a kind of muffled rumbling whooshing sound. Doesn't increase in volume with the amp. Just a base level background that I can hear when playing at living room volume. Any ideas? Toobs?

  • Awesome.

Just wasted an hour going through my pedals one by one testing cables and power supply only to realise that the sound continued even without anything plugged into the amp.

    I'm a dope

  • Been deliberating over selling these for ages, which probably means I should.
Not expecting a lot of interest on here but before I put them on gumtree, anyone keen on an old trace Elliot practice amp £50 or a 12 string epiphone jumbo, £230?
If so pm and happy to send more pics. Based in N16 - right in the middle of stoke newington / Clapton / hackney downs

  • Love that. Bonus points for curly red cable too.

  • That's a handsome Epiphone!

I'm going through a huge 12-string love affair at the moment. Most likely going to pick up that D'Angelico one or if not that either the Ibanez AS7312
or I'll hold fire for the new Rivolta Combinata 12-string which will be coming out after Christmas.

Also very heavily tempted by a Recording King Lap Steel... They're cheap as chips and look like a load of fun!

In less exciting news my Harley Benton Powerplant Junior and TC Electronic Polytune Clip (for my Collings) arrived in todays post so might be able to squeeze in some pedalboard assembly later this evening!

  • Hmm... current pedals in no particular order...

Fills the board up more than I had expected and leaves an odd sort of space available. I do want to include a volume pedal and I may or may not keep the Whammy as I feel like it's a bit hard on real estate for how much it might be used?

  • I recently picked up a ditto. So much fun, even if I do have to listen my shit playing over-and-over...

  • Gonna give it a thorough setup in a minute... So vanilla!! 🤢

  • Still doesn't sound great, hmm, not sure what to do... I'll just have to bury myself in YouTube DS-1 videos for a few days... I like the Feedbacker, strange effect...

Also.... New scratchplate arrived for the Bender, I love it! Got into a slight panic with it, opened the packet then realised there weren't any screw holes drilled for the neck pickup, it was in a slightly different position too as my guitar has got 22 frets... Fixed it like a boss tho', watching all those Stewmac videos must've paid off!

  • Managed to get the mini board sounding ok, but not sure I need the DS-1... The DF-2 sounds pretty similar... Think I'll chuck my Fuzz Repeater in there for now, gives me a couple more options and the fuzz is pretty cool...

  • I'll give this a try tomorrow, tbh the envelope filter is a bit shit so that may go as well...

  • Sorry to prattle on! I've been WFH and there's been fuck all to do, so etc... 🙃

  • Mmm, that looks more like it!

  • Moar pedalboards!

(SRSLY. I love noseying at other people’s setups)

  • Yeah me too man! Bring it on.

Did wonder about the envelope filter. Not my cup of tea at all.

Played my new board and amp at first rehearsal with a couple of local dudes last night. Limited opportunity to rock-out as most of what we played was Byrds-esque country. All sounding good though despite an anxious few minutes setting up which turned out to be a duff patch cable.

Amp sounded glorious and tremolo is working again. Weird rumble seems to have stopped but I did have issues at the end of the session with the vibrato channel breaking up in an unpleasant way when the reverb was cranked.

Def need to go through the tubes one by one and see what needs replacing. All in all, really happy with the set up though.

Auto wah, can't be fucked with messing with the real thing anymore... Turns out I can't be fucked with this either!!! Just had a little quiet play, fuzz is very bassy, probably too bassy... I would probably be happy with a boost and a different fuzz, the repeater is totally unnecessary for this band... Delay is okay, I can live with it tho' I just saw a very cheap Waza analog delay on MarketPlace... So I uninstalled it!! It's like crack!!

Happy to hear your having fun with the new band!

  • Yeah it's not quite what I had in mind tbh. I kind of wanted to try something unscripted and noisy. Maybe re-work some of my tunes with filthy electric guitar.

Bass player and drummer both seem more interested in putting together a giggable set of hip but crowd pleasing covers. I'm down with that in theory but will keep on the lookout for for people to do the noisy originals with.

  • What is this MarketPlace?

  • Nice. I might put my pedalboard back together. Need to tidy my studio and sell some bits too. Also endless list of DIY 😭
