Went to sleep after exit polls. I think I was still hoping for some sort of fluke reversal overnight. Fuck me - things are going to have to get really bad before anything changes, aren’t they?

Dodds from the DUP is out. SF win.
Not enough really but I suppose a tiny silver lining.

Dennis Skinner has lost Bolsover, WTF?
-
• #2531
Thanks for that Alan.
So a shiny, centrist policy vacuum like Chuka or David Miliband would have stopped those votes in Blyth Valley or Bolsover going Conservative?
Bollocks.
There's lots of stuff Corbyn was poor at and lots of ways in which his message did not resonate. But one of the big reasons he has struggled is the constant stream of Labour MPs and former MPs telling everyone he was shit.

Foxes voting for the return of fox hunting with dogs with extra jagged teeth!

Yep hard to believe isnt it

They seem to have been proved right...

Interesting, leaving the source aside that doesn’t substantiate your claim though, only that it could possibly.

Plus the misleading stuff on anti-Semitism and the comments by Johnson's mate aka The Chief Rabbi.
-
• #2537
Centrist policies are still policies, and more likely to win in places like Basildon, which will give a general election victory.

Isn't that mixing up cause and effect though? That criticism wouldn't stick if he weren't - well - a bit shit?

All I will say to those 'traditional Labour voters' is be careful what you ask for....they will regret it after Brexit becomes a reality and react like the Germans did in 1945 as though they awakened from a trance and were horrified at what they helped to cause but it will be too late.

Attlee could also be labelled similar in many ways...The answer to this whole catastrophe is Brexit.

Comparing Brexit to the Holocaust, always goes down well.

Think the Labour voters in Cheltenham slept ok, Will?
The Lib Dem’s need just as much of a rebuild as Labour. Both have been disastrous. Think the Greens probably need to rethink too.

Leaving the EU by the end of Jan then?

• #2544
Tories rebranded as “the people’s government” eh

One world conservatism is a principle that fully depends on the trickle down of wealth from top to bottom.
The conservative party haven't exactly demonstrated a committment to that cause in their various governments since the 1920s.

I can't believe how bad this is. And things will get worse. This election was always about Brexit and Labour campaigned on the wrong policies as regards what most of the electorate want.
The majority of Labour's policies are decent but people want "Let's get Brexit done." Or the appearance of it. And they love being lied to.But do not be under any illusion, this is a seismic shift, a break in society between the regional working poor/regional working class/the older generation and the younger urban working class and middle class. Even more so than the referendum. I know conventional notions of class structure don't reflect things accurately but I think this is what's happened.
The conservatives campaigned on Brexit.
Labour said let's have a second referendum.
That, chiefly, destroyed them.
I'm pretty devastated that this Conservative win is so complete. This country is fucked.

Yep, setting up people who oppose to be enemies of the people, lovely

• #2548
Christ what a shitshow.
That the opposition couldn’t put a finger on the liability that is Johnson is all the evidence you need that Corbyn and Swinson were both shit. Fuck this ‘if it weren’t for the meedja’ shit, even if I agree with some of it - you play the cards you’re dealt. That’s why some of us think all this anti-Blairism has thrown the baby out with the bath water - if we want a left wing government in this country, it’s going to have to be one that appeals to be centre right, cause we’re so fucking skewed as a nation.
Or else we can be politically pure and complain about how in Europe it’s different, and be blocked out power for another decade.
Wake the fuck up, everyone.
PS - Oh, and inb4 ‘Chuka lost his seat’. I’m not saying that the current centrist trends are any good either. But there’s a huge chunk of the middle ground that is contested, and that the Tories seem to have made gains in.

Well put.

So depressing.
The only upside I can see is that the Tories will have to fully wear this shitshow for the next 5 years, no one else to blame. Not really a consolation, but will be interesting to see what their reputation is like by the end of it.
Nothing that I have read or heard from experts agrees with this. Do you have a example?
