  • The kitchen has been part fitted. Cupboards on walls and base units. Everything came pre assembled.

The quote seems to have been back of a fag packet. The guy who came out fitted a kitchen for friend of the OH. The OH never met him, so has a few texts on what she wanted. It is amazing how timid she gets in these situations, I didn't get involved as the OH wanted to it and this kitchen is becoming a saga as it has been a year in the sorting.

Was looking at DIY kitchens but OH turned them down as they don't have a show room where she can see the kitchens and a weekend trip was out of the question. I wanted Ikea, as buy it there and then.

    Am I being fussy?

  • Something that substantial should be decided by all affected parties I would think. Our kitchen was pretty much designed by me, with my wife’s contribution coming in the form of yaes and naes .

  • Am I being fussy?

As @withered_preacher says no. I'm assuming that the £2.5k is labour for fitting it and doesn't include units appliances sinks worktops etc. Its a lot of money and something you have to live with for a long time.

I would feel pretty uncomfortable fitting a kitchen for a client in the basis of a couple of texts. At the very least I would want some kind of layout drawing, but would prefer the client to have signed off on comprehensive plans that include things like socket locations as well as a render of what the finished kitchen should look like. Even with a good plan stuff can go wrong and things may need to be changed but you have a solid starting point. As the old saying goes "fail to plan, plan to fail"
