  • My takeaway from the nursery talk is that childcare is one of our most important societal requirements and relies on people being paid too little to live adequately while the nursery owners live a comfortable life and that something needs to change to change this situation.

  • Uniform for a nursery??? Fucks sake mate says it all, say is ALL

  • When we stopped paying for Nursery it was almost like getting 50% off our mortgage. It was eye-wateringly expensive.

  • It's probably already been mentioned but labour plan to make sure nursery staff get paid a wage they can live on and the government will offer more expansive free childcare to (more than) cover and increase in fees, paid for by taking more from the richest taxpayers, sounds like a good deal to me and if you disagree then you're a selfish wanker

  • My childcare costs have just gone down from £587 a month to £48 a month and I suddenly feel like Croesus. Good job I've got a 6 month old lined up so I can go back to throwing money down the childcare hole in the near future.

  • We were paying a bag of sand a month before the 30 free hours kicked in, subsequently lost due to redundancy. Luckily my job is safe-ish and the redundancy payout was healthy. Christ, imagine being one pay check away from heading down the bennies office and still voting tory because your newspaper told you to be scared of commies, imagine if that happened

  • My childcare costs are £2,700 per month. That's two kids in different nurseries, the younger one costs £1,784 and the older one is subsidised so costs just under £1,000. Both are local to our house.

The private nursery, that will take a baby from 3 months is run by an American company called Bright Horizons and they make an obscene amount of money every year.

There are no state options for babies under 12 months and very very few for children under 2.

We are worse off (financially) with my wife back at work but taking a 5 year career break for her would be the same as having never worked.

  • we're going to win

  • Your kids cost about twice what I earn.

  • Sorry. Send me to the Golf Club thread

  • Not having kids is why I can afford to have nice things.

  • the younger one costs £1,784

Fuck me that's steep. Even for a Bright Horizons franchise.

You could sell the kids & get a £640k mortgage instead...

  • Good god I suddenly feel like I got a good deal

  • Our childcare is similarly expensive.
All in, it's another mortgage payment.

  • There's the dream that when they're both at school we'll suddenly be mega rich. But I don't think money will be acceptable in the post apocalyptic world of BM PJ BREXIT.

  • It's actually £1987 but we get a edenred voucher that reduces it

  • You feeling optimistic? Why?

  • Bright Horizons

Yup! They bought out the small nursery chain where our son was. Very good quality but very, very, very expensive. And they staff made fuck all apart from the constant cash in hand babysitting jobs for parents. No idea where that money goes.

  • We're sending both ours to a bright horizons, only 3 days a week, Mrs G never said anything about the prices!

  • Yep. We paid £90 for a babysitter on Saturday night to a young girl from BH

  • I can hook you up with a baby sitter....

  • Christ, I'd babysit for an evening for less than 90 quid

  • Bag of minstrels and a 4 pack of john smiths
