  • When you’re building your bike you know what height the seat should be at.

  • Ah, yes, good reason. I find other ways on alu seatpost though :) But I use tape for seat setback on the frame as well.

    No. I suspect @hippy wanted to have easy access to his closure adjustment as 24h of non-stop effort is going to be even more unpleasant if you discover 6 hours in that your feet have got bigger and your shoes are cutting off the circulation to your toes.

  • It's holding the gravity-fed fuel line up for the motor... and marking the seat height.

  • Yep. My feet definitely swell during longer rides so I like to be able to adjust the straps quickly and with my shoe covers on this wouldn't be possible.

    I also ditched the visor at some point - either fogging or maybe to help stay awake. I can't remember. I'm wearing boring gloves too for comfort rather than the faster ones. Basically, I could add some distance with better clothing choices now. But am I going to ride another 24hr TT? Doubt it.

  • Work continues on my gt tequesta. Wired up the front brake and put on the tyres I had sitting in my shed. Had a good go on the rear brake but got confused by the rear cable routing. The rest guide doesn't seem big enough for a cable end grommet thing and there's this weird pipe on the seat tube. I guess it was all designed for cantis not vs.

    Need a new cable but once I get one I'll just ignore the seat post guide and route straight to the left, bodge a cable end in somehow.

  • I have hydros on it now and they're still shit but i blame da carbon wheelz.

  • Guess you could get away with a longer, flexible V-pipe, and still use the cable guide on the frame.

  • That guide was for cantilever brakes. I'll suggest to bypass that.

  • Pic courtesy of Stridsland shows a reasonable way of sorting it, though like I said, I'm not sure my grommets fit into the cable guide under the top tube so I might try some sugru or araldite or something.

  • Fixed Grus ™ bike on a budget is go. The frame was originally build for 27" wheels with mudguards, so with 700c it offers plenty of clearance. The paint is rough and not original (seat tube and BB not masked either...) and it unfortunately has had a tough life since it was last refurbished, so it might not be the long term frame I was after, but hey.

    Put a front wheel in the rear to cold set to 120. Drilled the fork to accept a recessed nut. Sanded the seat tube (which is 25.4, annoyingly).

  • Putting together my Guadrini I bought on here after I've had a cuppa. I hate cables...
    nice little frame though, not the nicest welds I've seen, but for the money I'm chuffed and it weighs zip, being columbus genius, I like the way the dropouts are columbus genius ones too. It should look great as the paint jobs a masterpiece. I mentioned to the coffee shop lady I was building a bike up tonight when she asked me what I was up to, and she said put it on instagram so I can see, so I guess the pressures on...

    Quick mock up. New chainrings and wheels/cassette and saddle to go on.

  • There's plenty of frames around that will accommodate bigger tyres. Ideally I wanted something like an Holdsworth Zephyr, but any 70s Peugeot (or anything that has Mafacs/Weinman centre-pulls really) would do.

  • Plan to take off my middleburn cranks from my ss on one inbred and try an mtb double/triple. Anyone running a 3x1 or 2x1 set up? May use a front mech, may not.

  • This frame is unreal. Looking forward to the build.

  • What would you use at the back for your chain tension, a spring loaded chain tensioner or a rear mech?

  • Spring loaded tensioner maybe . Bike has ss specific wheels. Gearing is perfect for off road riding, but would like the idea of being able to run a higher gear for the town/ to and from the dirt.

  • YE! do it! use a downtube shifter for super lightness!
