  • This thread is the gift that keeps on giving, haha.

  • Thanks! And for the info too, its useful as i'm reading up a lot.

I am less worried but my partner was already struggling due to the stress of our other cat, and knowing he is FIV and there could be a risk (even if small) has made that worse.

He is back with us for the time being and getting lots of fuss. He also (it turns out) has an ulcer on his left eye, and has some infected scratches on his front legs we hadn't noticed, so he's shaved in several areas and receiving eye drops and antiseptic cream so is slightly out of sorts today (not forgetting his castration!) it's been a bit of a week for him.

On the plus side, one of my colleagues at work might home him, I've given them the reality of his health so they are discussing with their partner and doing their own reading up, but I think they are keen so that would be a good outcome.

He will be with us until at least the new year, we will keep looking after him and managing the situation until we manage to find him a new home.

  • What a lovely cat; and very well done!

  • "You lot can f**k off, this is my spot."

  • Was told the FIV cats make excellent indoor cats, no idea how true it is. Has your cat had the FIV vaccine. Would that help?

Well done for look after the furball.

  • As a cat, everywhere is theirs.

  • My last cat was FIV and he was a great cat. Weirdly it wasn’t the FIV that got him in the end.

  • I wanted a FIV cat when we were looking, as it was going to be an indoor cat. Went to a shelter and wanted to take every one of them home. Yeah pathetic, I know. In my defence each cat was so lovely and spent time with each one as I wanted to be sure as I wanted to be a forever home.

  • Pocket has been getting into increasingly violent fights with a majestic but persistent Maine Coon lately. He’s a big bastard who we have christened Trousers (because he looks like he’s wearing harem pants). Trousers sprays our back door while loudly growling and kicking the shit out of the (microchip lock) catflap while Pocket sits on the safe side. Occasionally I’ll lob water out the window to invite trousers to back off at which point an emboldened Pocket usually chases him off.

This morning however Pocket was super fast and rugby tackled Trousers as he was scaling the fence at which point they went at it like you wouldn’t believe. Fur, snot, froth, Pocket’s collar, dignity and sense went everywhere. I had to go down and physically see Trousers off as I couldn’t stomach the violence. Never seen our cat looking so pumped! She was twice her size, tail like a bog brush and her heart was visibly banging out of her chest. She’s wandered off and is nowhere to be seen for now. Licking her wounds I guess.

It’s like a frikkin jungle out there!

  • I know exactly what you mean. Remember Patch and bully black cat from upstairs I occasionally mentioned here? Nothing worked but I managed to get the bully cat to a point where when he saw me in the garden with a particular stick, he’d run a mile. So I ended up doing it a lot. But then I had no idea what happened during the day...

It is annoying but there is much us humans can do... ☹️

Giving Pocket loads of hugs and love! 😸

  • I know right! They fend for themselves but it sucks to watch. She’s been getting love from mrs Wrongcog all afternoon apparently so she’s ok

  • I once sprayed the downstairs cat with a practically empty Camelbak bottle, he ran a mile every time I showed it to him after that.

  • How I picked Euronymous was that he was the only cat that let me touch then without being bribed with treats.

  • been to shops for milk

    came back with fish-N-chips too

cat is happy, he likes battered cod, trying to type and fend off cat is a multiskill not on my CV

  • For the meowny not the few

  • If I knew how to photoshop and could be bothered I'd copy those eyes onto the Blair poster:

  • So the furballs went back to the new vets today, looks like the red swelling is going down on both cats gums. Different vet tho. So each day I have been cleaning their teeth. So things are looking up. Looking to change their food from mixture of wet food twice a day (Royal Canin Instinctive) well a 85g pouch between them, and the usual nuggets of royal canin exigent are going to be changed to dental nuggets.

Another visit in a months time will see hopefully see that redness has all gone so all will be good to go.

  • That’s so unlike a Maine Coon, they’re normally so placid. I can’t quite believe it, but you’ve seen it yourself, so... they’re big buggers and can be fearsome hunters, but even so this is unusual.

Pocket is doing well to stand up to him though. Size isn’t a key issue in cat terms, it’s attitude, and she seems to have plenty of that!

Btw, Coonie’s furry back legs are known as pants, short for pantaloons. Hence my girl being called Ms Fluffypants by the wife :)
