  • It's very nice, and it's probably just me, but I prefer the series 2. The grill on the series 1 cars just looks a bit too snouty. A series 2 Daimler Double Six, on the other hand, most yummy.

  • I like that blockier front end of the series 1. If we're talking series 2 then it'd have to be the XJ Coupe but then again think I'd prefer the above as if has more waft-factor. Either series 1 or 2 though driving around today just looks so classy.

  • The trouble with the Series 1 is I can't stop thinking it looks like a slightly surprised pig. Still cool though - no argument there. The XJ Coupe is indeed very nice, but then 2 doors > 4 doors.

  • A friend of @Cycliste's father had (has?) a red XK120 roadster, which overheated quite spectacularly in traffic on the way back from Le Mans when the relay driving the aftermarket electric fan lost the will to live. I ended up 'fixing' it using an empty Orangina can, some nail clippers, and a rock I picked up by the side of the road.

    Overheating was something of a theme on that trip. My Fury Blackbird boiled itself on the way down when the rad fan wore a tiny pinprick hole in one of the silicone water hoses. We ended up fixing it using a random length of water hose @Cycliste got from a local garage, cut down to fit, which just about fitted after we'd softened the rubber by dunking it in a cup of tea bought from a local garage. After we'd topped up the coolant using a couple of bottles of Evian we were good to go again. That random piece of French rubber hose stayed on the car (as short term bodges tend to) until I blew up the engine racing at Donington.

  • Dad owned a series 1, that was 10 -12 years old when we got it and had a bit of restoration work to keep it on the road and it broke down alot...fast forward a few years and it was restored again by practical classics. The reliability hadn't changed.

  • Hush, XKSS is what you want and luckily enough you can now buy a continuation one from Jaguar Land Rover.

  • Cliche perhaps, but D type would be where my unlimited folding would flutter.

  • People have said the same to me about the series 2, but could just be an excuse to fit an LS engine.

  • I am quite tempted to buy this (£5k, un modified, 95k miles)

  • I'm seriously looking at those but then I see a low mileage BMW estate for only a few more quid and I think to myself why would I?!?

  • My other half has bought an ‘03 NA 2.0 one which I’ve been running about in, I really like driving it, it’s just a bit gutless. Mind you it was the equivalent of £1500 and was the only manual one for sale in the state.

    Euro cars are a premium here and almost always autos

  • Thought that Aus get lots of second hand cars from Japan.

  • I have a BMW with xdrive. There is a large nail in one of the tyres. The garage is telling me I have to get all 4 done as their can't be a greater than 2mm tread variance between tyres because it'll fuck the xdrive system. Anyone got insight into this? Do I really need to change all 4 tyres

  • And related.....what tyres? 225/50 r18 99w run flats.

  • I thought you had to swap fronts / rears at the same time, but not all 4

  • Back of envelope, I think that's less than 1% difference in circumference. I imagine that calculation should be checked though.

    I don't know how much more wear the front vs rear get in the usual course of driving the thing, but I assume the F/R wear isn't exactly even given it decides where to send torque, and so the tyres must eventually wear naturally so they're out by more than 1% difference (but all legal, so not particularly measured). Do suddenly all four need replacing under such circumstances?

    That said, it's not something I have to deal with on my car, and I've got no real idea...

  • Can see it causing an issue with fancy AWD systems to be honest.
