  • Shutter precision

    Yes

  • Shimano DH-UR705-3D

  • Anyone have the SON Coaxial Adapter and can tell me which wire to solder to the male connector? From my IQ-X there's two wires, one '+' and one 'ground'.

  • Sorry can’t help you there! But fuck can soldering be stressful! I spent several hours last night fitting a set of supernova connectors into the wire of my sine wave beacon so fiddly to get all the wire strands into the tiny solder cups!

  • Do you mean the inner part of the plug as opposed to the other? I would go + inner, ground outer. Entirely from instinct though. Could you tape them together temporarily just to check?

  • Since its an AC output, it won't make any difference, surely?

  • Beware that the SP9 has long OLN-to-shell spacers and a narrow hub shell, so wheel flex could be an issue with that hub (IME ... with too few spokes for my bulk and a crabon rim). I have not used the SP8. Lots of poeple love em.

If I wanted want cheap, I'd buy a midrange shimano. If you a fancy schmancy, buy SON.

  • See now I was having a convo with my 15 yr old this morning about how Dynamos work, general chat about transformers, AC and DC, that sort of thing, and I realised I KNOW NOTHING OF ELECTRICS.

  • Since its an AC output, it won't make any difference, surely?

... and this would explain why the socket doesn't come with any instructions.

  • I was just going to buy one of the Halo pre-builts because on trade they're only like £80 and building a wheel would probably be the same.

what shimano one would you recommend?

  • The downside to Halo factory built wheels is they insist on aluminium nipples for some reason. I’ve broken 5 in my rear wheel (live by the sea though)

  • I’ve got one of those halo wheels, been fine so far, shit spokes I think but will just rebuild it with better spokes if needed in future.

  • I had a set of the standard white line wheels and they were sturdy af so i'm pretty confident in their wheels even if they do weigh about 2 tonnes.

I'm just so bored of faffing with lights as i leave home in the dark and leave work in the dark.

  • Try it. My carbon rim + too few spokes is a very different scenario.

  • Would an SP be significantly better than this shimano dyno?

This is for a commuter, I dont care about weight or resistance. Just dont want to buy cheap buy twice

  • No, get shimano, there are even cheaper ones, look on bike24

  • Just realised thats not even disc ffs. I need silver, 32H and 6bolt/CL. Somebody sell me something so I dont have to order from abroad ?

  • Anyone tried the b&m iq-xs ?

  • The switch/button that comes with the IQ2 that has USB on, can it be bought separately?

  • no idea but if you find out let me know, I tore mine off whilst trying to get into a fight with an IABD driver.

  • Would an SP be significantly better than this shimano dyno?

Shimano are just amazing. I submerged mine in a ‘ford’ about 4 years back, hub was easily 5 years old then, fell off the bike, had to drag it out of the pond, took ages, still works and runs smooth.

  • It’s excellent. Get it.

Use it for club pace night riding regularly and it’s great. There are brighter lights, but they cost twice as much.

  • There's one on my partner's bike. I'd say the beam pattern isn't as good as the higher-end b&m lights, like the Luxus, or my Supernova - it's a bit boxy with very little illumination close up. Decent for the money I guess. The fact that the mounting angle is indexed is more annoying though, unless it happens to be at the right angle for your bike

  • Also the standlight is absolutely pants, but I think that's true of many lights
