I feel your pain. I lost my nine year old cat last month to kidney and bladder problems ❤️

Sorry to hear that.

Sorry to hear that, 9 is no age at all. It’s tough, but part of having a pet I’m afraid. The advantages far outweigh the inevitable ending tho. RIP Pickle

Had Ziggy nearly two years now, she's a 6 year old rescue, and had been in the shelter for nearly 6 months before we picked her up (black cats not being popular due to being thought of as bad luck perhaps?). It's taken a lot of time to build her confidence and comfort, we suspect she wasn't well treated before she ended up at the shelter. She's very affectionate, funny and charismatic now though and likes sleeping on top of wardrobes and is spectacularly spoilt.

I love black cats. It's not just black cats that are unpopular though, black dogs also tend to be the last to be rescued.
Fabric update. He's back to 100% health. Eating, drinking and playing as normal. The vet said that his heart stopped beating for a short while during the op but then started beating again before any damage was done. Fabric is a tough cookie.

That jumping photo is amazing. Nice wall colour too.

Ziggy must have had her rear paws right on the edge. Get a bit of push off.

People are fucking backward idiots, it is a cat no matter what the fur colour.

Always liked black cats, love them now.
People can be arseholes, she was taken to the vet to be put down by the previous owners despite being perfectly healthy and only 4, think they'd inherited her from an older relative and didn't want her. Luckily the vet got her sent on to the RSPCA and now she's with us.
Only been in the current house a couple of months, might need to make some sort of ramp for the wardrobe, she can jump it fine but we get woken up by a thunk-thunk fairly often as she descends from wardrobe to chest of draws to floor in the middle of the night..
Glad Fabric is doing better @Stonehedge, always nice to hear good cat news.

Black cats are not popular also because they are hard to photograph so no good for stuff like FB and Instagram etc. I read it somewhere a couple of times and our vet also says the same thing.
I love black cats... In fact I love any cat!

I love black cats. My absolute favourite, maybe not so much when they lie across the hallway in the middle of the night to trip you up. Although, I'd have a cat of every colour if I could.

The black cat "Thing" is mostly down to deep rooted superstition. They are both Lucky and Unlucky depending where you are in the world.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_catCouple of hundred years having a black cat would have been enough evidence for the Witch Finder General to burn you alive. Unknown if the WFG Matthew Hopkins is a distant relative of what could be called a modern witch hunter and someone who uses scaremongering for there own ends Katie Hopkins.

Cats got fleas. Any recommendations on shampoo and spray to disinfect carpets etc or how to treat and get rid of fleas. We’re assuming the worst and that carpets, sofas etc all need to be treated. Have already bought a spray but interested to hear if anyone has any top tips apart from burn everything?
Got some from vet and local pet shop, plus anti flea shampoo and flea comb for her too btw.

Absolutely shit my pants when I found out my local Irish pub has a resident black cat (despite going there regularly for a year). It jumped onto my lap unannounced from the shadows searching for crisp crumbs. It has a particular taste for cheese and onion I believe.

I've found that Stronghold for the cats works pretty well, and spray for the carpets.
IME, once the cats are treated, the residual population of fleas dies out quite quickly. Although I know others have had it worse so maybe we have just been lucky.

Indorex is good for around the house. Do a room at a time so the cat isn't in the room being sprayed. You can buy it online a lot cheaper than at the vets.
Farewell Pickle. Forever hiding in the long grass.
