One of the EfM regulars is running right past my house about 10pm tomorrow if it goes to plan. I'll join him.

About 6 more to hit 90 miles ATCF. Someone just ahead (2 miles or so) to chase too.

New leader @Philipflop
Hope you gave the look as you passed?
I hope you do hold on for the win, this has been epic dot watching.
The guy running past my house is too far away to be here in time but still moving.
I have work tomorrow so need to sleep now. Awesome running.

Thanks very much, awesome day out! Felt a little bit bad as I passed him, he had led the whole day pretty much and apparently was his third attempt to take the win but he looked in bits when I saw him and he said he was close to quitting. I said I was heading for Oval, wished him well and blazed off, amazing what the adrenaline of taking the lead can do for tired legs. Got to Oval with an hour still to go. Seems he had found a second wind too as was coming over Vauxhall Bridge so carried on towards Lewisham.... he got as far as Camberwell in the end. Really pleased I kept it going for the full 24 hours in the end!

So you won? Congratulations on an amazing run either way

Simply brilliant. Well done again, hope you're getting good sleep now!
What was your winning nutrition plan in the end, stick with tailwind or did you mix it up a bit?
-
• #21261
So you won?
Yep!

Thanks very much.
Nutrition went very well, stayed on the Tailwind the whole way without any problems, didn't get overly sweet at all, supplemented with Tribe Oat Bars, Peanut Butter Sachets, Hash browns, Greggs Vegan Sausage roll (mistake, not easy to digest!), Super Noodles and Oat Milk.

• #21263
How do you eat super noodles whilst running?
-
• #21264
Wife was supporting from car so cooked some up on camping stove in a car park!
-
• #21265
Ah, nice! Well done, very impressive mileage. What was your total distance covered?
-
• #21266
Total was 110 miles. Just managed to get it on strava, watch ran out of battery and seems impossible to charge watch whilst activity was still running so ended up having to combine three files.

Nice article in today's Time Out about this Midnight Half run that took place in London at the end of October. Sounds sort of like an alleycat without the bikes. I think I read an article about the NYC version before in Like The Wind or a similar magazine / zine publication. I can't find the article at the Time Out website so keep an eye out for it today at the tube stations.

My friend Mollie wrote that. There is a bloke from my running club who did it, he enjoyed it.

Yes, I did! It was pretty mental running along tow paths in complete darkness with only a head torch lighting the way. And having to choose and follow your own route added another level of wtf.
I started off strong as 4th women until halfway but that came back to bite me as my right hip and knee gave out and I had to pull out at 16k. Great format though, totally like an alleycat-on-foot, would definitely do it again.
See you there next October @Tenderloin?

• #21271
Is the next one not until next October??
I'd be on for organising something like that. Even a 10k.

In the summer would be nice.

My running club has organised quite a few of these style of races (partly because we never have permission to run races and the markers get removed by over officious security guards), but usually the start and finish are on different sides of the river, so you have to plan which ferry you'll take and figure out the ferry timetables. In January there's a 50km race planned, which given how much everyone gets lost could end up being over 60km - which I will not be doing...

After @Cycliste made it look so easy this year, I've rather foolishly decided to join her at the confusingly titled Zurich Barcelona Marathon next year. I'm not much of a runner, and never have been, but I have been lumbering around the local roads and tracks for a couple of months now. My training plan, if it really warrants that title, is just to up my weekly mileage by 10% a week, including increasing the length of my longest run in a week by 10%. I'm so far up to just over 20km a week and 10km longest run. I've even been doing some parkruns - best time so far 23m51s.
So, given that all I know about running is that one foot goes in front of the other:
- Anything else I should be trying to incorporate into my joggling training? My aim for Barcelona is to get round in a semi-respectable time, nothing more.
- How bad an idea is this, where 1=very and 10=totes.
- On the basis that @Cycliste did 3hr21m after 5 months' training (from zero running), while carrying an injury, I thought I was being conservative saying I'd get round in about 4 hours. Reasonable or wildly optimistic?
The more I've written, the worse an idea this sounds. Ho hum.

Is this your first marathon? If so then I would focus on 1) getting to the start line fit (uninjured) and 2) finishing. Time isn't so important but you will learn a whole lot about what it takes to run 26.2 miles and that feed into setting time based targets going forward.

It's a great idea, of course. Running a marathon is hard but it's not superhuman. Chances are it's well within your capabilities to train for and complete a marathon.

4 hours is not unreasonable - it's a great time. I wouldn't compare yourselves to others though, focus on your pace, training, strategy etc. You will learn a lot from the experience and that feeds back into your preparation for the next race.
Good luck and keep the thread updated with your progress!
Good luck, is your intended route flooded? Mine would have been problematic by looks of it. Lovely clear sky and bright moon up here, hope it's the same there. Enjoy!
