  • I just said they probably don’t help - I certainly don’t think McDonald are the cause of obesity. I feel the same way about fast food in general, it’s just we were talking about McDonald’s in particular.

I think if you sell unhealthy food marketed to kids, you shoulder at least some of the responsibility if they all get obese.

  • Fuck that, Mcdonalds are a major cause of obesity, and they behave like cunts. They spend millions each year on lobbying against the minimum wage, healthcare reform and marketing regulations trying to restrict them marketing their toxic shit to children, liking their chicken McCyst burgers does not negate that. They act just like the big tobacco companies.

Yes other fast food joints are bad too, but lets not do the Lance Armstrong but everyone else is doing it defence, that's piss poor, Mcdonald's are cunts.

  • They also get through an awfully large amount of cows, which is obviously pretty bad for the cows, but if you're not too bothered about that, it's pretty bad for the environment too and tied into many other problems the world is struggling with at the moment. Of course, again it's not just them, but it's pretty hard to not think of them as one of the main influencers behind the current massive demand for loads of cheap meat across the west and then the rest of the world and the damage that goes with supplying it.

  • Agreed, they do seem to act very differently in the USA and elsewhere to the UK.

  • Shareholder maximisation is the most fucked up idea ever. Most frustratingly, Adam Smith, supposedly the idol of free market "liberals", would have hated the concept. But then they ignore most of his actual views (e.g. he believed in a very high inheritance tax).

  • Shareholder maximisation

Pretty much the root of all societal problems in Western society.

Edit: and also the driver behind 95% of my income so glass houses and all that.

  • Sadiq Khan comes out fully against City of London airport expansion

    https://hacan.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Robert-Sinclair.pdf

There was a worrying delay to his decision, I have been following a campaign by local residents, who have been lobbying him.

  • Me.

Sorry but Leeds/Bradford Airport needs a bit of a lift.

  • Not sure what you mean.

  • Good, now he just needs to cancel the Silvertown Tunnel. (Yeah, right.)

  • Yeah. The idea that more roads eases congestion has been repeatedly disproven all over the country. It's like saying, I have a problem with flies in my garden because of all the dogshit. So I'll ease the fly problem by throwing more dogshit around.

There my be a case for lobbying for the tunnel to be open only for zero or ultra low emission vehicles, or some similar restriction though? TFL say only zero emission buses will be allowed through.

  • Yeah. The idea that more roads eases congestion has been repeatedly disproven all over the country.

Takes until 5:45 to get to the point, but still one well made.

  • Fracking banned in the UK with immediate effect.

  • This was very good news!

I bet Bez is fucking buzzing off that

  • halted, not banned.

  • Yeah, true. They’d have to prove fracking is super safe and heals sick baby animals and stuff, but then my faith in the government to do the right thing and now bend to industry pressure/money remains un-buoyed by this news.

  • i'm not suggesting it's a bad thing, heck, giving cuadrilla's stock value a kick in the cock is never a bad thing. I just think it smacks a bit of a lazy tory green credential land grab what with an election around the corner. expect this decision to be quietly rolled back in 3 months.

  • Sadly you’re almost definitely right, I imagine :-(

  • It may well be electioneering, but it'll be dependent on someone writing a different report, maybe Rachel Wolf (perhaps the announcement is geared towards deflecting criticism from her having been a pro-fracking lobbyist?):

The government said it would not agree to any future fracking “until compelling new evidence is provided” that proves fracking could be safe.

  • Obviously, if there's no change in government, all bets are off. Taking it to northern pro-Leave Labour seats?

They'll probably use their time well before purdah starts.

  • Think I've indulged in at least 20 of these. What's your score?

  • I’m removing my skull and bones as I type

  • At least four of them with you at South Easts I think!

  • You guys get pissed up and indulge in a bit of postmodernism?

  • I had to Google "Rosicrucianism" and now I'm 110% demonically possessed.
