  • gov. takes unprescedented steps in delaying a report on russian interference in the brexit vote until after the general election, these kind of reports are usually released as soon as they are finished according to some mp on some radio show last week

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/nov/04/no-10-blocks-russia-eu-referendum-report-until-after-election

wonder if it has anything to do with dom cummings links to russia and if russia are going to assist boris in this election

  • I don't think this is true. I think Deutsche Bahn has a similar structure to Network Rail. I.e a private company that is wholly owned by the government.

  • That was my conclusion too, yeah - for some reason some sources mention the Cantons as co-owners, which confused me a bit, but when you look into the official SBB report from 2018 it says that it's wholly owned by the 'Bund' and has been since its inception. I'm assuming there isn't really any source that would be more 'official' than that.

  • It's not nationwide but TfL is Government owned and run as a not-for-profit.

  • Not to mention the excellent example of a privately operated railway operating safely, efficiently and profitably....the DLR.

  • Did we win this yet?

  • When I said I didn't think the changes would be revolutionary, I didn't for a moment think that anyone would read that as meaning the kind of revolution where the state gets overthrown. I meant profound and rapid change - a bit like, erm, the industrial revolution. It's figurative language, innit.

  • I think the re-nationalisation of energy is not revolutionary. I think the plan to align renationalised sectors to a green industrial ‘revolution’ is the exciting bit and the bit that’s being campaigned. The message is more ‘why’ and less ‘what’.

i.e. taking over Stagecoach bus services isn’t a big deal. Providing free bus services is.

^ this is actually a Green (rather than Labour) policy, but hopefully you get the idea.

  • Then why are they calling it #GreenIndustrialRevolution all over social media?

Well, I was referring only to nationalisation. As miro_o says, the bit that might and should be revolutionary, in overthrowing quite a few established structures, will be the 'green' bit. I mean, at the end of the day it's basically a lot of work, but there will be a lot of resistance to it, so there's room to have at least a bit of a revolutionary feeling.

  • Did we win this yet?

Tesla battery charged by Zwift sessions. That’s when humans really start winning.

  • The message is more ‘why’ and less ‘what’.

Well, it’s more like ‘how’. They’re proposing using public ownership of the grid to force change along. That’s a much better idea than nationalising the generating assets. Like I said, I like the plan. I just don’t think it’s revolutionary.

  • Swing voters gonna swing when they think values+policies align with their own (the messaging of ‘why’). Detail in execution (‘how’) is a relatively minor factor relating to wether or not the person/party is credible. This dynamic tracks issue complexity.

    But whatever you say boss.

  • At first glance this seems bizarre given that brexit could be hastening the reunification of Ireland but I guess if the dup are weakened politically with less seats then maybe that aids the long game for sinn Fein

  • DUP had to oppose the GFA as that would ultimately lead to the re-unification as well, their goal in this whole process has been to get to a no-deal situation.

  • SF has said before that they will try to stop Brexit/a hard Brexit. Of course they are also demanding a border poll in case of a no-deal Brexit, just playing the game here.

Other parties are also standing aside, not sure why SF always gets most of the press. SDLP/Greens/Alliance/SF are all working together.

The UUP/DUP are also forming pacts and standing aside for each other. Disappointing, as I was hoping with the new UUP leader (ex sub marine commander) they'd be told to feck off, but alas, birds of a red/white/blue feather stick together...

  • I’m saying what I think of their energy plans. I care about the ‘how’ of energy policy because I think that’s crucial to whether it will work or not. You do you.

  • Actually we were talking about whether there was daylight between their policy and twitter messaging. But you quoted me and defaulted to talking about you. Again.

  • Yep, good one tx! (for those that listen to reason obv, I don't know what the "angery react only" crowd needs. A big hug?)

Oh, the irony that the papers that now pushed the line the EU sucks originally weren't so skeptical ;)

  • Hugo asked me what I thought. I replied. You replied to me. I replied.

  • Is this going to be the election thread or will we have another?

    #passivevoice

  • There is an election thread https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/340282/

And no sign of the merge-a-tron.

  • It'll get tedious changing its title to the Election thread, then back again, then Election again, then back again...
