  • I’ve just posted some rigid boost forks and 650b+ wheels in the classifieds. Make me an offer if you need either!

  • @yetidamo or anyone else, have you risen Wind Hill Bike Park?

It’s about 1.15/1.30h from me and from what I’ve heard and how it looks on you tube it could have some good runs for getting my confidence back jumping.

I was wondering how it rides in the wet, worth heading to over the winter months?

  • Hey. Sadly I've not got to Windhill yet. It's a bit further for me than it is for you, but I'm really keen to go at some point. Not sure how it copes with the British winter weather.

Would also be keen to hear other people's experiences of riding it.

  • I’m sure I’ll make it over there in the coming months, it’d be nice to know if it’s got enough for my needs before I make the trip.

  • This is the trail that’s appealing to me (not the bit around 2.50 though).

  • ^ also interested in windhill if there's a group going. Never been there but looks fun.

  • Have been messaging someone I met at BPW on Thursday night who’s ridden there a fair bit.
They said after heavy rain (like we’ve been having for weeks) it doesn’t get claggy but it can get pretty slippy (so not great for confidence building on the jumps).
They also said it’ll get very muddy/boggy at the bottom of the hill where water collects, it the berms and on the lead up to the jumps.

However give it a week of dry weather (fingers crossed) for it to dry off a bit I’d be up for a visit.

They also mentioned that there’s a clue in the name and it can get pretty blowy up there in strong winds.

  • I’ve amassed a collection of 2nd hand parts, just went in on a 2nd hand frame, and am now just a pair of forks and a headset away from a complete bike. I don’t want to buy 2nd hand forks as I don’t know what I’m looking at enough to know whether I’m getting defrauded, so I’m going to buy new. Can anyone recommend a 26” sus fork? Preferably one that isn’t going to bankrupt me.

  • What travel? Air?

  • Yeah frame and budget would help.

RS Reba would be the default suggestion without more info. But you are looking at £300ish for a new one.

  • it's a cotic bfe from I think about 2012, so should be ok with anything from 100mm - 160mm of travel (according to cotic). I'm just looking to get extremely mildly rad round epping forest so was thinking 120mm? Budget around £250?

It should go without saying that I have almost no idea what I'm doing.

  • Tbh, if you shop wisely you’ll find something that’s has proof of service and get a pair of RockShox Pike or Reba.

These will far outperform anything you’ll pick up new for that price

  • And I take it that this has a 1 1/8” non tapered headtube?

And is your front wheel QR or Bolt through?

  • 1 1/8 non-tapered, QR. I’m living in the past.

  • shop wisely

Not playing to my strengths here!

  • I’m living in the past

You sound like an ideal candidate for the Epping Forest Honey Badgers

  • 1 1/8 non-tapered, QR

Huh...could fit a gen 1 Pike. All the new gen ones were tapered though. So no pike gen 2 for you.

  • Gen 1 Pike’s were all bolt (maxle) through no?

120mm pair of Reba’s and for the price they’re going for you can afford to get them serviced:

  • Full sus for my partner....spend £500 on secondhand or £1000 on a Calibre?
    My partners 5'2"....so a 26" or 27.5" wheels best

  • Gen 1 Pike’s were all bolt (maxle) through no?

Yeah probably. Bugger. Who has a QR wheel anyway?! You can always get a new wheel / hub. Head tube, not so much.

  • You know the answer.

  • ummmmmmmmm.........

  • Just a comment on Hunt wheels...

I bought some Trail Wide wheels a while back and went for the Torque Cap fitting, when they arrived they were just the standard 15mm, so I contacted them and they sent out the Torque Caps. They arrived with no instructions so I contacted them and asked how to remove the fitted end caps, the instructions they gave were "it's not see easy, you need to push an old axel in to the cap and wiggle it around until it comes out" ... So did that pushed on the Torque Caps... Only to find that they're held in by a rubber seal that inevitably creates a load of drag, and they fall out easily... Anyway, I'll persevere with the original pair.

  • I’m living in the past

Except @pit, after all that Monster he's living in the future.

  • 45° HA, 120° SA, dropper bars. The future is bright.
