Hunt are well on their way to being the new Zipp; it's product recall time!

would be fascinated to see what's actually caused that recall. the Hunt claim of 'sometimes the rims fuck up if you hit a pothole' would be, in the industry, more of a user problem. Something funny going on.

I’m running a pair of DT Swiss R24’s on the commuter and the rear hub is starting to feel a bit rough and the spoke tension is very low. Has anyone serviced this hub? Just curious as to how easy it is or if I should be looking for someone to do it and sort the tension out for me.

Is there anywhere other than the cycle clinic or hunt that I should consider for a Son Delux 12 based wheelset?

The stock maddux wheels that came with my 2012 caadx have been absolutely abused and are still going strong after many years but the braking surface has now totally gone. Anyone recommend me some functional wheels to satisfy the following:
- Rim brake
- Clincher
- Shimano 10 speed compatible
- Fits 35mm tyres
They're for commuting but would be nice if they could also sustain the odd bikepacking tour. Tempted by these but wouldn't mind a higher spoke count:

Thanks in advance
(EDIT - or maybe this... )
- Rim brake

Its some really they ha e a 36mm wide ri. Which theh say is for 28mm tyres. So there customers keep.smashing there wheels up when they hit a hole on with the over stretched tyres on there stupidly wide rims. Rims that wide are better with 40mm tyres.

Obviously I'd say me, I'm biased though.

You're probably better off with hand-builds than factory wheels for those purposes. You could visit the wheelbuilding thread but the TL;DR of that is 32H Kinlin XR31T on whatever hubs your prejudice makes you pick.

Okay v helpful thanks. The wheelbuilding thread overwhelms me - hubs, rims, spokes, I haven't a clue. Your recommendation is useful. Im on spa cycles now...

Shimano hubs are good, not light but reliable and serviceable. Normal, round, double butted spokes and any decent low profile rim you can find on sale. I think DT460 were 25 each, or something like that.

What size rear axle are you after, I have a pair of Mavic open pros, tubeless 19 mm internal, on xt hubs, so 100mm front, 135mm rear. Pm me for info/pics/price if you're interested.

Does the following seem right? Any alternatives? The info on this thread has been helpful but just want to check some ideas.
I'm looking for a wheelset for a road bike: clinchers, rim brake, running 25s, Shimano 10spd, black in a frame for which 25s are apparently "possible but it'll be close" and I have no 700c wheels of my own to test out. At top of budget, I've seen...Vision Team 35 Comp new at Wiggle for £155. (These are 18.9 internal, which I suppose is the upper limit for 25s).
If I put a Wanted ad up on the Classifieds on here for something used, are there other wheelsets I'd be advised to ask or look out for? I want something fast/nice for £100, £150max.Anyone by chance in Finsbury Park, Haringey etc have a set of Vision Team 35s with 25 tyres I could pop in to my frame to see if they fit?
Thanks in advance. -

Im close to place an order for a new wheel set and the H Plus son TB14 seems really interesting. How ever Im not 100% happy with their finishes.
The anodized gray is nice but a bit to dark, and the polished ones too blingy.
Ideally I would go for a "brushed aluminum" finish, similar to the below Araya RC540 rims
Any recommendations for alternatives with similar features as the TB14 but with a brushed alu finish?
Wide-ish with low profile and machined sides for rim brakes. -

Not sure if another rim that low profile, wideish and tubeless (but don't know how tubeless ready the tb14 are in reality) is available.
There's the ride trace r 20 and ambrosio evolution, but both are higher, and black with machined sidewall. -

They seem like a very good option, thanks a lot!

Does anyone know which rims the Hunt 4 season clinchers use? I presumed they were Kinlins and the XC279s were close but don’t quite match up in terms of internal widths

Hunt Wheels are not good at precision so it could still be those rims.
Their hunt 34 rim is only 32.5mm deep but their technical drawing says 34mm

What's good for rim brake, hill climb friendly wheels - for a dedicated hill climb / mountain trip bike, so lightweight matters here.
Any opinions? I guess carbon is not going to be fun on the downhills?!
-
• #8549
lightweight matters
No it doesn't.
-
• #8550
I thought the evidence showed it did, just not until certain gradients (10% plus)?
...or rather, aero matters more at all other gradients
