  • Reported for NSFW boner

  • He's got the eyes for it.

  • That person has a whole account dedicated to unnecessary inventions

  • I think what is getting lost is that this is meant to be a community. I didn't have any problem with the crying wolf fat rape woman post or the 'le bumsex' one, neither were particularly funny though. What we had was a response where people called them out because it did offend them or they didn't like it- why does that then provoke the reaction to double down and dismiss the offended person's view? When @Fox mentioned how he felt following a couple of posts it made me pause, they didn't bother me but they did bother him, so even if I were inclined to post something similar ( I'm not) I would give it a pass because this is his space too.

Regarding that trans post, it's not a meme, it is a crap cartoon that needs to head straight off to r/boomerhumour or r/oldpeoplefacebook.

I don't think Dov has made many good points in recent contributions on this thread except that it does appear that the forum is now eating itself.

Should have know this would all turn to crap when people started shitting on the moth memes.

  • I don’t get the impression that @Señor_Bear meant to cause such upset by posting a poor taste joke.

I took his enquiry re why “gammon” as a term is tolerated here to be genuine and not simply stirring.

To recap, a person told him "I am personally upset by this rape joke you posted" and then a second person said "I am personally upset by your homophobic retort to being told off for posting a rape joke" and he continued to insult people and insist they were overreacting.

It's nice to assume the best of other people - you know, maybe he didn't realise (?!) that joke would upset people. But that becomes quite difficult as soon as you insult someone who tells you they're upset about a thing you did. Pretty sure you lose your entitlement to a good-faith debate after that.

I mean on this same page he's said "delete your account" in response to someone saying "this thread is read by rape victims you know IRL". What defense is there for that?

Edit: ^ what @salmonchild said. Except the bit about moth memes, I hated those.

  • No @frankenbike is clearly a twat who can't appreciate decent memes.

  • What defense is there for that?

The presumption that this thread is implicitly subtitled "Enter at your own risk". "Delete your account" is just a hyperbolic way of saying "ignore this thread". Even within the very narrow bounds of taste and decency permitted by the admin, there is likely to be material here which some people find upsetting or offensive.
We're all supposed to be grown-ups, so we can draw our own conclusions about whether people are being gratuitously offensive, thoughtless or thoughtfully challenging, and equally we can form our own opinions about whether the responses emerge from authentic distress or right-on posturing.

  • Regarding that trans post, it's not a meme, it is a crap cartoon

True, but if it had been well done it might have made a worthwhile point about whether surgery should be the first resort when people start questioning their gender identity. It still wouldn't have been a meme, but we're a very long way past the point where that was the defining characteristic of image posts in this thread.

  • worthwhile point about whether surgery should be the first resort when people start questioning their gender identity.

I have a colleague who is going through this process and surgery has been far, far from the first resort, in this country at least.

  • Hypothetical quality trans issues awareness cartoon thread>>>>>>>

  • surgery has been far, far from the first resort

I know, hyperbole and all that. AFAIK, in the context of a society which is still pretty well locked in binary-gender mode, trans people seem to get better long term mental health outcomes when gender reassignment/confirmation surgery is included in their therapy plan. That leaves hanging the wider question of whether surgery would be necessary at all in many cases if we just changed society.
Still, my boyfriend was as happy as a dog with two dicks after his phalloplasty, so I wouldn't want to take surgery off the table.
