There's a few places in the trees lower down the climb, but as it's not a closed road event it'll be too narrow/dangerous in a lot of it for spectators.
@dbr was there an obvious place that crowds congregated at Haytor a few weeks ago?
I'm making my annual hillgrimage from Norwich to watch the Nationals again, and I would usually walk up and down the entire course during the opening riders, but I'm not sure I fancy 6+ miles on foot just for the sake of it (conditions pending!), so I'd be tempted to camp out at a good spot, then maybe make my way to the top to see the rocks afterwards.
