I mean, for me. For someone who's still in it to win it, it'll be a proper effort. Interesting because longer.

Is there any software that turns veloview or Strava segments in to smart trainer files do you know?

The cattle grid on the climb has claimed 7 local victims this week, one descending (found semi-conscious) and 6 climbing(partial deglove of leg). Local hospice is holding an event this weekend, so hopefully council might repair it fairly sharpish.

I used BigRingVR for a bit a couple of years ago, not sure if you can make your own courses though. I think a kickr has the ability to replicate a GPX, never tried it though.

It's on the 27th right? If I remember, I can go take a photo of it middle of that week.

That’d be brilliant. Yeah, Sunday the 27th.

• #436
Cool I’ll have a look

7 people crashing on one cattle grid in a week? Were they all in a bunch? Eeesh

@dbr was there an obvious place that crowds congregated at Haytor a few weeks ago?
I'm making my annual hillgrimage from Norwich to watch the Nationals again, and I would usually walk up and down the entire course during the opening riders, but I'm not sure I fancy 6+ miles on foot just for the sake of it (conditions pending!), so I'd be tempted to camp out at a good spot, then maybe make my way to the top to see the rocks afterwards.

The 6 riders going up were on the same 'slow but steady ride', so most probably a contributory factor. The guy coming down was on same day, but a bit later AFAIK.
Not to be a doomsayer,(and plenty of people normally cross it without incident) but that many in a day was worth mentioning!
It is in a position that catches run off from a muddy track, oil and various car deposits from people dropping a gear to get up the steep bit, and general leaf litter. It's also at a shitty angle, so forewarned etc etc.

The best places will be north of the aforementioned cattlegird, where the Templar Way path is, https://goo.gl/maps/x25E4NrtEH3u2JTn9
There's a few places in the trees lower down the climb, but as it's not a closed road event it'll be too narrow/dangerous in a lot of it for spectators. -
• #441
Ah didn't realise it wouldn't be a closed road, that's good to know thank you.
Will aim there, and hope the cattlegrid isn't as treacherous as it sounds for everybody's sake!

I’d have thought the last steep section up to the finish would be best. Very close to the hotel and burger van too.

Cool cool, sounds like a slow wander all the way to the top over the ~4 hours will be ideal then. I'll make sure to give you a hearty cheer again!
Anybody else on here planning to be racing that I can keep an eye out for?

As dbr says, Haytor Vale is probably the best place. Although best gurns might be seen at the start of the trail in that link. There are a small few carparks off the main road. Also avoid Cafe360 in bovey, expensive and slow. The brookside has been friendly to cyclists for years.

I'll aim for up there, and just hang out with the biggest crowd I can find for the vibes. Sadly I'll almost certainly be without a bike, I'll get dropped off and picked up somewhere on the course, so good to know there are options for shelter in Bovey if conditions aren't ideal!

Good stuff! I'll see you both then, it'll be like Hedley on the Hill all over again :)

Also doing this, #140, riding with dulwich rather than under LFGSS. Come say hi if you see me!
I see a few others are also doing Bec CC in the afternoon. I'll be down to recce both climbs on saturday morning.

Just been out to do some recon for Sunday. Gruelling climbs in this weather. A lot of wheel slippage on Yorks so will have to rethink my strategy. Punctured trying to get to the bottom of white lane so i decided to call it a day.
That, looks fucking horrible.
