Lol u guys
Iβm just gonna try and get in the earlier wave, if not just get on with it and not worry about pacers
-

big city marathons can be pretty strict on pens. I would try and run your own race. Ignore the pacers.

Got round under 3:28 - so pretty pleased with that. Was very wet and pretty cold. But pleased with that for first marathon.

I did my first ever 5k race over the wekeend - the Hitchin Town Centre 5k. Sub-20 for only the 2nd time and a few seconds off a PB which is pretty reassurring seeing as I don't feel like I've been training anywhere as near as hard as when I set my PB. I think I just need to get used to being properly uncomfortable* for more than just the final sprint. And train a bit more too.
*as opposed to the normal level of discomfort that comes from runnning a fast but sustainable (for 3 miles) pace

Good effort!

Sub 20 is still sub 20.
Good work! -

5k races are meant to be painful the whole way round :) the faster you run, the less time you're in pain. Anything sub-20 is amazing imo, well done!

Thanks for this, I've emailed Manni. Generally not getting the right vibes from the current physio so hopefully can see what he makes of it all - looks to be covered by Bupa and is closer to work so win win. Cheers!

After running 100k Race to the Stones in July, I havenβt had much motivation to run anymore! I was so sick of training by the end and the only runs I really enjoy now are hilly trail runs - never want to run up the river Lea again...
So any recommendations for trail events within easy public transport distance from London? Looking for something low key and cheap, around 21k or less and maybe self navigated. Did the Gatliff marathon in Edenbridge last November and loved it, so something similar to that would be great.

Let me know how you get on.

Intriguing:

In other news, anyone want my EfM place? I sadly can't do it to the level I'd like (in terms of my remaining goal for the event) this year so would rather step back now than have the millstone on top of other stuff that is going on.

Calf injury from May is back, and I'd barely started to work on building up some form.
Turning into a bit of a pork chop hasn't helped, bit is precisely why I want to be running.

anyone want my EfM place?
Very tempted. Let me run it past the boss.

Cool. I'll hold it a few days so you can check. Lemme know either way then I'll offer it wider if you don't take it.

The temperature is really starting to drop and anything below 10 is a bit chilly in just a singlet and shorts.
What do people here go for? Trackies or tights? Sweaty running jacket or just a jumper?

Setting myself a goal of that holy 20 minutes 5k by Christmas, parkrunned this weekend in about 22 mins

Tights for training, shorts for racing.
My go to tights are pearl izumi elite, but they haven't been sold for about ten years. Not sure if they have a modern equivalent.
Nike shorts are my longest lasting, but I have Ronhill trail and some high split short shorts in regular rotation. The mesh has somewhat perished, so I occasionally feel as though I'm running a bit 'free' and have to be a bit careful when sitting down.
Run the first 5k in your fastest ever time and try and hang on
(Do not try this. I have and it failed)
