Is there an appropriate thread for discussing winter cycling shoes/boots? After the rain the last week I'm seriously considering some and wondered if there was already any discussion of them.
I've tried to UTFS but am swamped by classifieds etc... -

Just as aside bike frames were phosphate coated BITD to prevent rust, called Bonderising if I remember. Similar to Parkerising guns.

No joy on the pub thread so any suggestions for a pub for birthday drinks on a Saturday night?
Needs to be reasonably central/easy to get to, a decent size (probably looking at 20-30 people), not empty or rammed, late licence, decent range of beer.
Cheers

Where can I get springs for old-school single-pivot brakes? I have a nice shiny pair of Shimano 600 brakes on my fixed but the springs are mad strong (because they are a copy of Campag Record of the period). I would like a much lighter touch because I don't use the brakes much on fixed (of course). Anyone know of a source?

Has anyone used a ride share service in France in the holiday season - ie Xmas / NYE?
If so what's the reality? Lots of fucking around, or not too much hassle.

I've recently switched back to commuting with a backpack rather than panniers. Probably not uncommonly, I get a sweaty back whilst cycling and after a few rides my bag starts to have a slight odour. How to others' get around this issue other than the idgaf option?

Get a pack of those expanding-foam earplugs, ram them up your nostrils.

Do all UK Travelodges let you take bikes in the rooms without any hassle?

Kicking myself for not having thought of that.

Any wedded people of London who got married in/around London? We're looking for an all-in-one venue for a large number of people (140ish) - we don't care about fancy, unique, or any of that, we just want space for people.
Ideally somewhere we can arrange our own food and drink. Rent tables that can be moved later on in the day.
Possibly farfetched combination but hey.
Thinking like.. warehouses? breweries? -

Depending on the time and day, church halls may be worth a look; some of the bigger ones will take those kinds of numbers without too much trouble, and they've generally got kitchens.

I got married here http://www.hlsi.net/room-hire/
was lovely. You'd have to sort your own food, and they don't open late (I dont think) and you cant start until after 6pm on a Saturday but it's beautiful, cheap and they're nice people and it's a good cause.
couldn't really reccomend it enough

O2 just sent me a refund from an account I closed in 2010. How did they get my current address?

At Newhaven they wouldn't, but they stored our bikes overnight in a secure store room. I suspect they probably would have let us if we'd pushed for it, but there wasn't really any point.

Just do it, do not seek permission.
Yep, if it's anything like the auto renewal on my car insurance (similarly incompetent). They'll charge a completely punitive amount if you try to cancel.
