I once tried gold and had a respectable handicap of 18 after about 6 months of playing with my 'vintage' clubs. By vintage I mean £20 from a car boot sale clubs made of actual wood and i strongly suspect pig iron.
Thought i quite like this sport, i should have lessons. First lesson:
"Mr Compo do you know these are women's clubs and too small for you?"
went out and bought a cheapish set (not as cheap as the car boot specials) from t'interweb, never hit the ball straight again.
Gave up about a month later, stupid game.
