Any idea if these are any use?

Swrve combat wool shirt. You only need one because it's more of an overshirt. Otherwise eBay Rohan will be the most ethical and probably best.

Oof, £130. Not opposed to spending that much if it will last a good few years though, have you got one?
Was looking at Patagonia/Kathmandu/etc. on eBay, will add Rohan to the list. I think second-hand probably best bet if I want a bundle of them. But nearly everything seems to be cotton.
@Tonts aiming a bit lower than that on the budget! Ideally will buy 5 and wear one a day
@HousecatHST looks like short sleeve only? Want long sleeves I think.

Yep, buying second hand will be your best bet. Patagonia Fjord or something like that.

Have got one + the 'work jacket'. I cosign them both. Put a lot of wear onto the shirt last winter (wore it basically every day + on holiday hiking in the lakes) and intend to do the same this winter.
Truth be told, there are probably cheaper things available that will last as long, but I do really like mine. (Bought it in their kickstarter so paid a bit less than the 130)

The Patagonia fjords are cotton.
I would just buy a cheap fleece jacket/pullover. Patagonia make the R1 fleece if your looking for something pricey.

Alee Denham from cyclingabout.com:
For 450 days I’ve worn the same shirt... EVERY DAY, in the most testing conditions! The Patagonia SOL Patrol II is the most legit travel shirt in existence.

None of that stuff is stylish anyway. Wrong thread.

Hmm.

• #4764
Yep. But buying second hand means less environmental impact.

Maybe there's a which barber thread?

I posted about this before I think.
The VERY best are Rohan second hand short sleeve from eBay. Checked patterns, many colours available. Lovely soft synthetic blend. Expect to pay no more than £8. They also do some long sleeve. But short sleeve plus lightweight fleece (100wt / grid fabric) or wind shirt is better.
Wool is way too hot, same for flannel, and seriously £130 for a shirt so you can look like a pretend lumberjack? Come off it.

I defend the wool overshirt, it's not that warm when worn as a top layer. It's just a shirt with buttons so a breeze will blow right through. Also the swrve one has quite a dry hand feel which makes it more formal/understated.
It is spendy though, especially compared to 2nd hand Rohan.

If I was about to buy a Rapha Core jersey, would there be any other similar jerseys I should be looking at for similar ££? Just want something simple, not merino-based and cheap(ish, I guess).
-
• #4774
Sportful? You might need to hunt a bit as some of the colourways are a bit bolder than Rapha.

Got on well with a Santini 365 Classe jersey over the summer. Bit longer than Rapha. Blue ones are £35 on Wiggle which I reckon is pretty good value. I’d buy again.

If you've got plenty of cash, people like Finisterre do (or did at least) a wool shirt.
EDIT: Just checked and they're all cotton. :-/
