Don't get me started

No, please do allow yourself to get started. I want to know, too.

Hanging Bat has been nothing short of exceedingly delicious with a great beer selection every time I've been...

They have a history of mocking the homeless and sex workers in their equity for punks campaign. They bought out a Pink IPA for girls. They lost a court battle after they sacked an employee for going blind. They sued a small bar who tried to call themselves Lone Wolf as it's the name of their distilling arm, the bar had to relaunch and spend thousands on rebranding. Brewdog offered them a box of their gin as an apology. They tried to trademark the word punk. They
used branding for their Punk AF alcohol free beer launch they were pitched and rejected. They are also atrocious at paying their bills. -

Yeah, I know the place has a lot of fans - not me

Thanks. I think I remember hearing one or two of those, but not all. It rules out Brewdog Shepherd's Bush as a Wests location for me (we were there again just recently).

They're not the worst company in the world, the owners just seem like nobheads. They had a pretty transphobic advertising campaign that was also pretty offensive to sex workers and homeless people a while back and they've tried to sue smaller breweries multiple times for use of words like "punk". Just rubs me the wrong way. Having said that, I've been to both a Wetherspoons (mad racist) and a Sam Smith's pub (actively pro foxhunting) in the last week so am a huge, huge hypocrite.
Edit: what KatBalou said way better

Which vegan breweries do we approve of then? Also wondering about alcohol free vegan beers as I like nanny state when I need a 0% drink?
-
• #6861
I guess it's a bit of a minefield. "No ethical consumption under capitalism" and all that. Maybe the best you can do is support small local breweries where you can?

Anyone got any good recipes for oyster mushrooms? I've got a shitload of them.

Olive oil, frying pan, heat, salt, pepper > fresh bread.

Oh I've been smashing them down fried with anything within reach already, don't you worry about that.

Yeah I guess so. Palmers is local to me, but not vegan on draft. Sometimes their bottles are vegan as Bath breweries sometimes use vegan techniques, but not all the time, bottles aren’t labelled as vegan, so unless you know someone who works there you don’t know if they are or not. Will probably stick to nanny state for alcohol free and vegan and tasty... other suggestions welcome though.

Lacto ferment and use resultant juice in ramen

Anyone got tips for places to eat/drink nearish to Lambeth? Don't mind travelling a little bit.

Not specifically on veganism but sort of leading there, although still seemingly maintaining 'if we eat just a little corpse flesh, we'll be alright':

The daiya vegan mac’n’cheez was half price in Sainsbury’s so I thought I’d give it a pop. My.god. It was a horrible experience. Couldn’t recommend it to anyone. Quite offensive smell too 😂

I approve of any breweries that actually do vegan beer these days... can't go wrong with anything German because purity laws... plus it's Oktoberfest soon so all the good fest beers are out. In this country, Verdant are held very highly as it always says if the beer is vegan or not on the can... I've not seen one that isn't vegan yet actually... they love brewing very dank, heavily hopped beer... if you can find any online, Leigh on Sea Brewery only brew one non-vegan beer, I love everything they do and they're local to me which is even better.

Only heard terrible things about it, and it's not fucking cheap. The M&S cashew mac is the best vegan alternative I've had.

Now the weather is turning, any recommendations for a walking shoe or boot. Just for walking the dogs rather than climbing mountains, so not looking to spend hundreds.
Went Merrell Moab 2 last time, which I liked, but the sole came away, so not hugely impressed with their quality. Mind you, I glued them and gave them to the homeless guy outside Tesco about six months back, and they still seem to be doing him fine.

Suggestions for calorie-dense stuff to take on an upcoming bikepacking trip? Instant noodles are my go to evening meal while camping and bananas during the day but not exactly a rounded diet..
-

I made some energy bar type things a while ago for a bike trip. They were basically just mashed up dates, oats and peanut butter from what I remember. Could put some cocoa powder or whatever you liked in there if you were feeling fancy. Kept me going pretty well!

Outside the box suggestion maybe, but I bought some of the Magna Trail boots from Vivobarefoot recently and really like them. It took a few wears for the material to soften up over the top of my toes, but now I really like the feel. They have a 100 day free return trial, and a refer a friend £25 off. (you get £25 off first purchase, person referring you gets £25 off their next purchase).
You shouldn't brew with dogs?
