Got the 'riding home' incentive entire time for that, though trains might be expensive at short notice.

I've done a Fri night train to Bristol and that sucked so I'd maybe try going Sat daytime and then riding back on the Sunday. But now I've thought about it, I quite like the LWL/Severn route so maybe I'll just take her on that one.

I'd like to do a 400 too.
Fancy a DIY? -
• #9780
I don't fancy much at all right now, but the missus was talking about doing one so if I'm back together soon it'd be good to get one in before the weather turns to shite. LWL route seems the obvious choice for us as we're already west London and it saves fucking around with trains, accom. etc.

The calendar one started at 12 for train travellers. IIRC.
But like you say, it is a faff.

Seeing a few posts on this thread again got me to recheck the Audax UK calendar.
Just booked for The Petworth End of Summer Time 200 should be some good tests in there with 1000 meters climbing per 100k without it being terrifying. -

If you want another option, the Kingston one, Dauntsey Dawdle, actually starts from Raynes Park, which is nearer - to me at least. It was quite a pleasant ride. Hilly out and flat back.

Ah, yeah, not a bad shout, since I missed that - it was right before doing my 4x600s.

Speaking of LWL, entries open saturday
-
• #9786
I've already done it officially, as the Severn Across and a couple of times as DIY or Perm. I was looking to stick in a 400k for the missus before the weather turned shite. You gonna ride next year's Calendar event?

The Paddington express is hard work on fixed. There is no respite from the saddle due to it being largely flat.
-
• #9788
We're both geared out of our ears so that's not an issue. I'm still leaning towards the out and back LWL route though, although doing the Dawdle would be new route for both of us. I'm still sick anyway so all this is going to have to wait.

You could ride to York and take a train back? The LFGSS Arrow Team route is nice. It's a bit more than 400 though (429)
-
• #9790
That could be fun. We've never been to York.

If you start at 9am you should get to the Six Bells pub in Whitham on the Hill towards the end of the afternoon / early evening. They do good food; have a nice dinner and after that it's basically flat all the way to York.

Cheers, I've sent this over for the victim to inspect :)

She won't even notice, with me sat in front pushing the wind out of the way...

It goes nowhere near the Fens.

You got me.
Artistic license anyway, it skirts the western fringes.

it skirts the western fringes.
Yeah true, Lincoln can fuck off tho

Yeah I'd like to, I hear really good things about the route and organisation. It'd be a step up in terms of distance
@Kurai
Starts from Bristol. Guess it could be reversed.
Oh, why not do the Severn Across/LWL route? I've done that DIY before.
Back to the Smoke could be interesting, train down and ride back.
