Argh, I remember such 'hood times' on our previous dog – was always not easy. All the best for him!

Thanks all. This is how the leg is looking after two weeks. Amazing compared to the gruesome picture on the previous page.

Ours got into the bin for the first time this morning. Consumed an unfeasible amount of leftover curry, dauphinois potato, chilli all topped off with a decent amount of coffee grounds. Got him to the vet sharpish due to the coffee/onions, our wallets and his stomach are now considerably lighter and he doesn’t seem to be suffering any ill effects

My front door was fully glazed until 6am, when a particularly moronic labrador decided to play fight with his son. No harm done except to my pocket (I really enjoyed clearing it up, yes I did).

I might as well add to today's dog stories.
I spent three hours carefully and thoroughly cleaning the carpets with a machine that I hired today.
Otto gets back from a day out with his walker and proceeds to throw up his dinner, some grass and what appears to be dog shit on the carpet.

And me! Buzz took the biggest piss I've ever seen him do in my life on our sofa on Saturday morning at 7AM. A good two hours before he normally needs to go based on the same late night walk as always. Didn't seem like he drunk any more than usual. I have never seen it in the UK, but over here, Nature's Miracle is the recommended product for cleaning animal mess. Oh my god, what a god send. Smells/looks like he was never even there, let alone having pissed a swimming pool on the sofa.

You can find good enzyme based cleaners in the UK but for some reason, the one that pets at home sell is shit.

I instantly Googled that! Thank you in advance, it is available online in the UK. Isn't it sad that a pisstaker has improved my day?

Can highly recommend this stuff as an alternative. £20 for 5l...

Heh, hopefully it works for you as well as it did for me. We also use their deodorizing wipes on Buzz when he gets a bit smelly from being covered in dog saliva at day care but it's not necessarily shower time yet, ya know, as to avoid over-cleaning him.

I just send my lot into the nearest river/sea, never washed a dog in my life.

Unfortunately, New York is probably the dirtiest place I have ever been to in my entire life and it's waterways are even worse.
-

Point taken, chuck a dog in those waterways and it would either dissolve or bounce off the surface.

Anyone interested in adopting a year old husky cross bitch. A family near me is having to give her up for adoption and would rather give her to home, but it's looking like Battersea at the moment.
She's lively, but is soft with a lovely temperament and great with my dog. I'd take her myself tomorrow, but just don't have the room for two.

Agreed. Our dog stank before we went on holiday to Northumberland. A week on the beach and in the sea and he smells beautiful and his coat looks amazing.
I only ever wash him if he’s covered in shit.

My mum's been making noises about getting a dog to keep her company when I'm not about. She's been unwell for most of this year and had really poor mobility but I think she's able to handle a couple of very short walks a day to take a dog out when I'm not there and actually it's good incentive to keep her moving as I think too much inactivity doesn't help her health improve anyways.
based on all kinds of variables I think something like a mid-size cockapoo might be the ticket based on what I've read about demeanour/temperament, grooming, general needs etc. my 2 young cousins spend a lot of time at my mums and my general experience with really small dogs is they're too snappy/mental.
obviously before I go ahead with anything I'll be doing my full due diligence on what I need but while I'm building up a mental checklist any/all advice on getting a puppy after not having a dog since I was 8 is most welcome. from best place to start to things you might not think you'll need but definitely will.
Thanks. He had the second set of stitches out on Friday, so it’s now just dressed and healing naturally- apparently Manuka honey is a real thing for dog wounds. I’m astounded that he has healed from that bone deep wound to a surface would that’s scabbing over, in 10 days. Without being able fully close it with stitches.
The hood stays until it’s completely healed. Done up with zip ties
