Thanks, yes there is. I think it is the interface between the bearing and axle that is creaking (or possibly between bearing and cup). Shimano I thought used a delrin top hat type shim between the axle and bearing which is probably better able to minimise any potential fit issues.
Happy to swap out the bearings for new but not worth it if it's a bit of a design issue. Have you had a good experience with the Hope BB?

I was gifted a used one these that has quickly developed a creak. Is it worth swapping out the proprietary bearings or is the design (no shim between 24mm axle and bearing) prone to creaking?
