Ah well, you’ve got two, must try harder

Not my fault this time ;o) Joking aside, it doesn't sound nice. Hope you heal fast.
My mate hired a Hightower yesterday at BPW and he absolutely loved it. He was flying on it. Enthused about it the whole drive home.

Can one get longer, lower and slacker lungs?
-
• #1956
Don't know, but I look forward to seeing performance graphs from the Lungwiz™

I’ve been in the hospital all day now, in a room of my own- waiting for my next scan to see if the lung is returning to normal or collapsing further. I’m frankly terrified at how much this is going to cost me.
The Hightower May be delayed...

At least you have 1 or 2 road bikes waiting in the wings.

Doesn’t travel insurance cover this? I’ll be in SF later this year and was planning on maybe renting a bike but might reconsider if crashing could virtually bankrupt me.

Just double check the policy wording - mountain biking was an additional £8 charge on my cover4u travel insurance in the us earlier this year
-
• #1961
Yeah depends entirely on your insurance.
However, if you tell them you fell off your bike in a non competitive setting, you should be fine.
If you tell them you were getting rad, maybe not so much.
Dog tag are good for getting rad BTW, and they also cover esoteric medical conditions.

I have travel insurance and mountain biking isn’t excluded. However, I have to pay and then claim back. As long as it’s less than ~£1,000/hour that’s manageable- more than that and it’s going to be painful.
In the best case scenario Denver Health send me the bill, I send it to AIG, they pay Denver Health.
The nurse-practitioner who signed me out thought I’d submit the bill to the NHS who would then take care of it, which is a reasonable assumption but sadly not the case.

I hit the deck sideways, looking at the scratches - right hand shoulder/arm then onto my back. The shoulder and arm is much better today, which makes the pain from the collapsed lung much more noticeable. But I can put a t-shirt on without having to count to 3 first, so definitely getting better.
Is there a recommended chest/thorax protector which might have spread the impact and therefore possibly avoided the extent of the shock to my right rib cage?

Don't crash
Whilst I was sat on a convenient log trying to get my breath back three other people crashed in the same spot, in exactly the same way - front tyre washed out on the very fine sand.
With that said, no one hit the deck as hard as I did, they all got back up, rode off.

Cheers, I'll have a good long look.
Dog tag
No esoteric medical conditions and little chance of me getting rad, so I'll forego those.

How's the bike?
-
• #1970
The bike shop cane and got it from the boot of the car whilst I was in hospital- they didn’t mention anything. I do know the right hand lever was knocked round the bars, and the stem was knocked round - noticed this when riding back down the mountain to the car. Otherwise I think it was fine/didn’t notice anything else.

Lots of body armour vests available.
Heal up quickly though and stop looking for quicker ways to get rid of your cash ;)

Anyone got the POC VPD 2.0 jacket?
-
• #1973
again, probably depends on your insurance, but my travel insurance gave me a billing address in the US that I gave to the hospital so I didn't have to pass the bill on. might be worth asking AIG about

• #1974
I have asked, thanks

Seconded on Dogtag - they’ve been pretty decent on a number of occasions.
If not without some paperwork quirks like most insurers...
No breaks- all that milk I drank when I was a child is clearly working. However, I have partially collapsed my lung.
