£240 seems pretty cheap. Getting quotes for a job that small, arranging to be in when they come round, etc would have been a real ballache and I don't think I'd have bothered either. Particularly if I hadn't caused the damage.

I had no issue paying for repair, but this guy is taking the piss.
Could be worse, could be asking you for £500. He should have just claimed on insurance though.

A year ago the washing machine leaked, water leaked into the flat below. I said I'd pay for repainting, (damage was not bad).
A year later, I get a text from the guy below, saying do I want a receipt for the £240 cost of painting. No asking for the money, no asking me if I want to get quotes. Just got the work done and asking if I want a receipt.
I had no issue paying for repair, but this guy is taking the piss.
