Unconventional sleeping position.

One of the kids' friend's cat has a litter of kittens. We were thinking of taking one, however we have now been told that the price is £200 for a kitten.

I was unaware that there is a market in which a standard moggy kitten can fetch £200, is that normal? I've just done a bit of googling and it seems that there are people trying to charge that amount for non pedigree kittens, but also plenty of people asking a much more reasonable £50-£60.

I've also had a look at Battersea D&C Home, however they only seem to have older cats which could be problematic as we have a cat already.

We paid £150 for Ned. No breed or anything, just an accident. Though I’d never let him know that.

That’s just taking the piss. The Cat Protection League and the Celia Hammond Trust always have more than they can handle and they’ll be inoculated and all that too. Don’t go private. For what it’s worth, my pedigree cat cost me £200 from a breeder, albeit this was 8 years ago

Rescued/saved a 6-7 week old kitten from neighbours. Been hearing it crying out for a few days and eventually went out knocking on doors trying to find it(all neighbours and us have 3.5m high walls around the gardens). Found the neighbour that had the kitten, I was prepared for a very awkward conversation but they pretty much asked me straight away if I wanted it. They kept her in the gardeby herself day/night since house was too busy. Paid 20(they paid 10) but got sub standard food and what not in the deal. Was gonna re-home her but they all fell through so now proud owner of 3....i.e a cat gang. Bella so far has been a rad cat and much more comfortable being flea-less and feed properly. After 2 days Mosley and Willow stopped being terrified/angry and they now get on really well 8 days in.

How old is old for your cat to accept? Patch was 1-2 when I got her from Battersea and there was a weeks old kitten in the room next to hers.

I remember hearing a conversation between a pretty senior lady and a staff about that lady insisting to have a kitten to add to her colony of cats at home. The staff was probably too honest to say that if we gave your a kitten, it might outlive you, would you have a plan in place for that?

I was like... LOL...

Patch cost me £75 and I constantly remind her of this fact.

Fun fact (or not) - Battersea has to put everything through their till, obviously... on there it says items 1 - cat, item 2 - 5L cat little or whatever, can’t remember. On the bottom, it has the usually statement about if you are not satisfied about your purchase, you can return within 28days for a full refund etc. I also still now and again remind Patch that I should have returned her for a full refund. 🤣

FWIW it's kitten season right now so most of your local shelters will be rammed with homeless kittens. Just keep trying other shelters. Some of them will only rehome kittens in pairs as it's better for the kitten (this site explains the reasoning)
