My stupid dag was at full stretch on his zippy lead, hoovering up the black "cherries" that had fallen off the Laurel bushes lining our route. He's eaten them before but I've never been inclined to google them.
Until now - Laurel berries are poisonous to dogs if eaten in large quantities and can give the dog stomach upsets. The pits of these berries produce cyanide which can cause health problems related to food poisoning.
So better not go that way again for a while.
