A few years ago I went with Cycle accident management services or something or other (CAMS)
They used Armstrong’s solicitors who whilst are in Liverpool, were great. They take a cut of the winnings but it was significantly more than I would have gotten without them -

Thanks a lot for all of your suggestions. I'll ring around and see who's keen and what cut they're going to take. I don't have any household insurance (another thing that's been on my to do list for years) so I think I'll have to pay for the solicitor out of the damages

Hi @hippy - did you get a decent payout with Leigh Day? All of the solicitors that I've contacted so far take up to 25% of the settlement apart from Leigh Day who take out some type of insurance product which means that if I win and the settlement is <£25,000 then I pay them c. £150 (if I lose then the insurance company pays them something). The cynic in me thinks that they won't fight very hard if that's all they get for their efforts. There's a real science to this...

It's ongoing.
Injury claims are bracketed so you will only get paid within a range for a given injury anyway.
When it's resolved I'll know if it was worth using them or not.

Had a minor collision last Friday with a driver pulling across me to get into a parking space. Bit of blood on my knee and knocked the front wheel slightly out of alignment. Gave the driver a bunch of adrenaline sweary words and didn't think any more of it.
I've since developed some major bruising on the back of my leg that had the cut to the knee. I guess I unclipped on the left, banged my knee on the car and then with the right leg still clipped in swung the left pedal into the back of my leg.
The accident happened on a University's grounds, and the guy was an admissions officer who claimed he'd done a 79 hour week as his defence. Anything I should be doing about this ?
I have his name and number, don't have vehicle reg or any witnesses. -

I used Leigh Day via my BC membership when I was car doored. They were very professional and I’d happily use them again. The payout I received was less than they’d estimated initially, but to be honest I’d felt I’d been adequately compensated and just wanted it done.

Okay thanks, good to know - I think I'm going to go down the LD route. For reference, in case anyone wants to use Osbornes, (who have a tie in with LCC) they originally told me the success fee was going to be 25% but when I mentioned I was in discussion with a couple of other solicitors they called me back and said they could go down to 15% (or 10% if the opponent admits liability within 21 days) - I didn't push for this reduction at all. Anyway, I've decided to go for Leigh Day and will let you know how I get on.

I had some driver pull out last week. She refused to speak to me and later got her mum to the scene. I got her registration no. but am struggling to get her insurer to call about this incident. The police did not attend the scene. My bike is in two pieces, plus other smashed items. There was a witness to the reckless driving. Any advice about this. Will I get my stuff replaced?

She refused to speak to me
Think I'd have got the cops to the scene at this point. Aren't people required by law to provide details in crashes?

Take photos and note everything damaged. Any injuries?
Insurance companies are scumbags. Keep hassling them. Perhaps involve a solicitor? See this thread for some suggestions.

Rang the police twice and on the second phone call they advised I attempt to get some info but the driver and mum refused.
Eventually they gave me the details but postcode was missing aswell as insurer details. Im getting a gopro from now on. The chase to get people to own up makes me furious. I will try Leigh -

@ojeffcott - maybe worth adding something in the guide about drivers refusing to provide details (and plod doing nothing about it)

• #643
Did you write down / photograph their plates?
-
• #644
I think the answer to that is waiting for police to arrive, however long that might take, there's been an RTA and they should be attending if called out.

Did you write down / photograph their plates?
And the driver themselves (in case they try to say it wasn't them).

@TW, thanx for that. I will read the guide in a bit. After the accident, the driver reversed back off the main road and was later comforted by the witness. The driver would not speak to me after the initial argument about what had happened. Her view was that I had seen her (from the side road) and she expected me to stop even though I was on the main road. Anyway, she wouldnt recognise why and how I didnt expect her to pull out into the main road. She later said she thought she had time, erm....... not really. I knew that we were not going anywhere, so I withdrew and asked to exchange details. She later accused me of being aggressive and that is why she refused to give me her details.
The mum wanted to give me her details instead and I refused. They called the cops themselves as well and that is when we exchanged details. I was at that point a bit tired of their accusations. -

Yeah this is why you don’t get up and why you wait for the ambo and the police.
Not that that is helpful now.
If you have the plate and you have a reference number from the police then you have what you need to kick proceedings off.

I was travelling south down Reigate Hill and she pulled out of Raglan Road turning right.
It's worth checking with your household insurers / any other insurers you have - they might also provide legal cover that includes this sort of incident. Heal up soon.
