  • Jesus Twitter

    link please

  • The explanation on the Twitter link is feasible too, he convinced the therapist he wasn't suicidal. Only so much you can do, you can't lock someone in shackles.

(Though some prisoners have been put in suicide watch/isolation lockup for years...but that trick wouldn't fly as everyone is watching, it's actually against human rights laws to do it for so long and he had a good lawyer)

Too bad as he may have taken a lot of secret to the grave, I don't feel too sorry for him.

  • Sorry if repost

  • Russell Square, looks like a big old London plane down:

  • 'Plane crash in Russell Square' suggests even more spectacular images

  • crazy day in HK , police fire tear gas inside yes inside an mtr station, girl possibly lost sight in eye due to rubber bullets fired at head height by police, reports of undercover police insiting violence dressed as protesters to activate propable cause to arrest and for police to charge protesters, and then the normal beatings from police. The police are realy outdoing themselves in turning public agaianst them

  • oh yeah local mainland pro beijing beating up random pepole on there way home

  • Hope you're safe (and @Ramsaye ).

I also know someone else who's just moved back to Hong Kong for a job and worry about him, too.

  • Thanks for the concern Oliver but the only dangers I face are sunburn and the occasional mildly inconvenient disruption to my commute. HK is still one of the safest cities in the world and not even in the same league table as London when it comes to violent crime.

  • Yep Echo Ramsys thoughts HK is still safe, my post was more a report on how shit the police have been, there have been rumours that the gov want to turn public opinion against the protesters but because the police have been so unbelievably bad at there job I think the public is turning on them.

Your friend will be fine here in HK.

  • Impressive numbers at the airport today, all flights out of HK cancelled.

  • What's the consensus on China's move here - ride this out, continue toward the treaty exit date, then roll HK up as a province, or lose patience and remove HK's self governance now?

  • On who's order have the flights been cancelled?

  • Impressive numbers at the airport today, all flights out of HK cancelled.

Is this a move to influence public opinion too?

  • ride this out

Including violent crackdown, declare fake news and foreign interference. After that no need to formally change self governance laws. Personally I think there's a lot more bloodshed coming. I would like to be wrong.

  • HK Airport authority

  • So many people up there

  • If the PRC took back HK by force no foreign countries would lift a finger to stop them and there isn't much more the USA could do with trade and sanctions either. Also the PRC has also shown they don't particularly mind putting whole areas in "reeducation" camps. I think all we can really hope for is the mainland deciding it would rather control HK covertly.

  • Don't underestimate HK as a global finance centre and China's reliance on it.

  • indeed. it's the H in SBC.

  • /csb warning

Lord. At my last company one day I had the Chinese office get in touch and ask for IMMEDIATE changes to how we listed Tibet, Hong Kong and Macau AND Taiwan as addresses in our system. This was a part of the company that otherwise had fuck all interest or participation in the platform I managed for them and for the rest of the company. I kicked it to board level to have them make the decision. Wasted like 2 weeks of my life I'll never get back. Fuck China.

    /csb

  • we spent two weeks changing a form label from "Country" to "Country / territory" across 30 odd services.

they then spent another two weeks doing it all over again when i helpfully pointed out they'd forgotten to change all the associated error messages.

    wac.

  • Was this about the time that one of the hotel chains had all the bad press? Hilton? Basically Sinosphere social media lost it's collective mind when they saw Taiwan referred to as it's own nation. Cue corporate weasel retreat...spineless fuckers.
