I think anything which will make it easier to take your camera out with you is a good buy.
Black rapid straps are nice, but I’ve found they work better with larger heavier cameras, smaller lighter mirror less cameras tended to bounce around too much for my liking.
For walking/hiking, I have a modular think tank pouch that velcros onto waist support strap of my back pack.
Does make me look and feel like a pro Korean tourist (which is me just reverting to type I suppose)
After spending the weekend researching the in's and out's of it all I'm going to agree with you.
Extra batteries and charger seem to be the first thing to buy anyway.
Also liking this strap from Black Rapid for attaching to the rucksack.
