  • Agreed. Oversized all the way!

  • Can anyone shed some light on tire clearance with mudguards on a 2010 genesis croix de fer (the old frame style)? I’ve done some trawling and come across opinions of both 32 and 35 max. Hoping to fit some gravelking SKs in 35 with SKS longboards. Ta!

  • 32s with guards. Had 35mm slicks with guards, but it was tight, so my guess would be 35mm sks and guards may be pushing it.

  • Thanks @jontea that’s helpful. Really hoped to squeeze in a 35 but but might just play it safe and order the 32.

I also heard back from Genesis who said: The max tyre size we would recommend would be 38c without mudguards and 35c with.

  • 38c GKs and I’ll be trying to squeeze guards in this weekend. May not work.

  • Nice. Unfortunately the old frame has smaller clearance. Good luck with the mudguards!

  • I've upgraded my commuting options slightly - picked this up in the classifieds (cheers @BirdBrain) - swapped a few bits over from my 631 Equilibrium disc and we're off! Didn't really need another bike but had just gotten rid of my car due to lack of use (old Volvo S60 which cost about a grand a year just to keep on the road, before diesel) so it's kind of a replacement for that, and it's much more environmentally friendly.

Only had a quick 5 miles shakedown ride this morning but i'm liking it alot! Stiffer and smoother than the previous incarnation, sitting at roughly 9.5kg right now but definitely rides lighter & the hydraulic discs are a world apart from any cable offerings i've used, haven't ridden a mountain bike for a couple of years & had forgotten just how nice hydro discs are, plus the big wonky shape of the RS505 shifters suits my big wonky hands quite nicely.

  • Very nice. What bottle cage is that?

  • Cheers - cage is a £9 planet X stainless number, works really well & pleasantly surprised how nice it looks once mounted - it's developed a couple of little spots of corrosion, probably from some weird luminous sports drink I had recently but seems pretty solid

  • Them stainless PX cages are great for steel/ti frames.

  • They're spot on for the money - seem to work well on most frames too unlike some of the other stainless cages, even modern carbon stuff - I have the Elite Ciussi on another bike and i'm still undecided - a bit too much going on, although I should maybe take the little sticker off and see if that helps

    (not my bike)

  • This is my CdF beginning, mid and end of 4 day tour. The only issue is that for some reason the Carradry dropped a couple of centimetres to touch and slightly flatter the rear guard.

  • Thanks. For anyone else that’s looking at it 38c GKs and PDWs fit. And I’m never buying cheap mudguards again. Zero swearing during fitting.

  • Not enough sweet fixies around here...

Ten year old Flyer with terminal chainstay cracks, saved from the scraphead by Bob Jackson. Orange is the new white.

  • Does anyone know the max rear tire clearance for a Croix de Fer 2013 no guards?

  • 32 + guards

obvs depends on tyre rim combo

  • Do you think 35 slicks with no guards will fit in the rear?

  • yeah, what rim?

  • I've had 35c with guards on my 2016 CDF, so I'd be surprised if you couldn't fit 35c without.

  • the older ones didnt have the clearance

here I was playing with fire: https://www.pedalroom.com/bike/genesis-croix-de-fer-38355#photo310506

  • that a silca impero? like the blue - not a fan of the red on the current versions

  • nah, the park tools one

  • Mavic XC 421 21mm internal width

  • Should be alright, mine was running Velocity Aileron and 35c G One Allround and the mudguard clearance was Rizla®

  • Sweet! I was planning on running them without mudguards so should be fine. Thanks!
