  • Dreadful stinker of a movie.

  • I did find Stephen Graham as a sweary, scouse, weird mouthed, badly animated pig thing quite funny though.

  • "I'mch chgonna schquisch hya fuching chead chnow hya baschtard."

  • started to watch SHAFT on netflix - the new one - utterly terrible on many levels.

  • In a tenuous chain of events I've been playing the hellboy board game lately so I picked up the omnibus editions of the comics to figure out who the fuck all the characters were and why i gave a shit about them in the game and the hellboy reboot actually feels a lot more spot on than the previous ones to the original material.

It's still a cheesy cgi-fest and hellboy's face is weird in a bad way (I thought he was played by the guy who played cheddar bob in 8-mile when I first saw him because of the squashed face, could not tell it was stranger things guy at all) but I came away more pleasantly surprised than disappointed.

  • Hellboys face was made to look as much Ron Pearlman as possible because that's what everyone was objecting to, they just forgot to do anything with the rest of the film. As a low budget B movie thing it was alright, but I think I went into it expecting better.

  • Watched a movie called Morgan on the plane yesterday, thought it was a new thing but IMDB tells me it came out in 2016... Anyway, it's bloody marvellous, check it out at your local purchase centre...

  • laterist heckboy starts well but descends into a predictably over complicated, badly scripted schmutz. milla jovovich should be anyone's first warning.

    David Harbour is fantastic.

  • Hecklad is the preferred funny almost right name.

  • I watched it yesterday, absolutely shocking but no worse than I expected. Samuel L Jackson looks fantastic for 70 though, is there an Oscar for best age reduction makeup?

  • Watched Minding the Gap on BBC's iplayer over the weekend with no preconceived opinion of the story and was nicely blown away, and not surprised at all when I found out retrospectively that it had been shortlisted for best documentary at this year’s Oscars.

Coming of age documentary/film set in Illinois based around a group of skateboarding friends, shot and directed by one of the group over a period of years. Growing up, friendship, racial identity, domestic violence, death (no spoilers) all explored amongst amazing skate footage. I haven’t seen a film like this in ages and it has blown everything else I’ve watched recently out of the water. Would recommend!

  • Cheers for heads up will watch that

  • I watched it recently too! Really enjoyed it.

In a similar vein I highly recommend Mid90s by Jonah Hill - it was probably my favourite film of 2018.

  • Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was good. I'm not gonna sit here and say people will be quoting it in 25 years, because it's not that kinda script, but the storytelling was good and the cast were great. Mad Men levels of authenticity. I mean, I wasn't alive in the 60s, but from photos and videos I've seen of the late 60s, it's pretty damn accurate.

  • "If you have a situation on the road, go faster and turn the wheel"

  • Overlord. Could’ve been decent shlock. Wasn’t.

  • Finally got around to watching mid90s. Really, really, enjoyed it. Soundtrack was on point, as was the costume.

  • Watched 'On the Basis of Sex' on a boat. Don't bother, watch the far better RBG documentary which we watched the night before. On a boat.

    Boats.

  • Captain Marvel and avengers end game were a pretty good way to spend a hangover. My daughter liked them too so we'll probably have a lot of old marvel to rewatch.

  • I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ve been a personal mission to get everyone to see this film. The soundtrack has been on hard rotation for the last couple of months

  • This looks promising and looks like Scorsese is back on track -

  • Genuine question, his last three films have been Hugo, Wolf of Wall Street and Silence - about as on track as you can get, no?

  • ^^ looks like the same film we've all seen times

  • The Irishman would have to be a cinema classic to make up for De Niro's last decade, but then again his highest-ever grossing movie was that Fokkers one so what do I know.

  • Hugo was good, not seen the Silence, could not sit through Wolf.

I think his best work is crime based , King of Comedy is outstanding.

Another bonus for my taste is that it doesn't have DiCaprio in it. I cannot understand his status as a lead actor but I did enjoy The Revenant but that could have been based around the topic/subject of the film.
