Three or four forging a more southerly route from the main pack. I know people have said that the front places don't often change after the first few days in these type of races, but I feel there could be some big changes still, strong riders are placed in the top 20 and we have some relative new names leading. The hills are going to be a test when they approach cp3.

Pretty much this, far from over.

Keep at it mate, you're doing great!

Does "Changed position" mean you tried slamming those cleats as far back as possible?
If possible, consider cutting the holes (with a chain saw file for example) so you can put the cleats back even further. You can find this file in the garden section of hardware stores next to the chain saw chains. They are the right diameter of the cleat holes and can munch up carbon good enough.
The theory is that with the cleat towards the back, the calf muscle is less stressed, therefore pulling less on the Achilles tendon.
Power to you!

The podcast is really good. Great production value.

I wish they were filming again. Francis Cade's videos from last year (or was it the year before), were pretty good.

It was TCRno4 that he did the daily videos

I’ve been following you on Instagram and I’ve enjoyed how frequently you’ve been posting (as well as your actual posts), and you’ve got my respect for prepping and turning up.
My advice means nothing but if I’ve taken one thing from last years thread it was to take a load of time to rest before scratching. Hope your Achilles feels better soon.

Really hope some rest and a change of position helps your achilles.
Much much respect.

It turns out Björn knows Fiona, and they're both from Dresden:

Ben Davies is in pain from saddle sores:
Late in the day came reports that third-placed rider Ben Davies (cap #10) was suffering from saddle sores. In a bid to let some air to the wound, he had foregone his cycling bibs for a pair of red football shorts and was pushing on through the pain.

I didn't realise that people arriving at CPs after they've closed are effectively out of the race--able to record a finishing time at the end but not in the classification any more. I probably should have noticed before whether that's been the case in previous years, and maybe I've just forgotten.

Any word from @frank9755? Seems to be making good progress
-
• #1920
I think if was 2017 it became the case. If not last year for sure.
It is a race after all.
You're still a 'finisher' just not on GC. -

Fiona Kolbinger regained the lead overnight. Looks like an exhausting day coming up watching her dot go through the Alps.

• #1922
Look at Fiona Kolbinger go: https://www.strava.com/activities/2576700403. Goddamn.

Good luck. Hope you are able to carry on. You have done so well up to now. It’s a lot easier to get home from Brest than from the Balkans.

There are five riders on the parcours leading to CP2 and all of these could reach CP2 before the leaders hit CP3. Which leaves only five riders on the road behind them.
It strikes me that this year’s field is stronger than previous years and that there are fewer “stragglers”. That said, there is still a long way to go.

Kolbinger looks like the real deal. I'm in awe!
Keep going!
