Yea I was literally packing tools into my hip bag to cycle over and he sent me a photo, “yea it kinda changed colour too”!

All over the cables, rims, cassette, everything. The paint was actually worth more than the bike, he used some spare cans of Molotow.

I tried this, a few things put me off:
-Spreading the fork seemed silly, it is China carbon after all
-There's a small bulge on the inside too
-I'd have to readjust my brake

Ah. Missed that it was crabon and the bulge on the inside. Also, I had a feeling it might have been a silly idea. Pretty shite suggestion all round!

Well I would have done this too, so the rack weight was on the axle rather than just the qr skewer.

First time I’ve actually had to cut a flathead groove to remove a rounded off bolt, worked a treat with the ratchet for leverage though.

so you can pull upwards on the frame while twisting?

The bonded section of the post came unbonded, so I took it out, drilled through the post and put an old axle in there. Then we could spin the post using the frame as a lever with the axle clamped in the vice. But there was no way of applying force upwards to move the seatpost so we clamped the g-clamps onto the vice and got one person to push upwards while the other twisted the frame back and forth.

The Freewheel tool was just enlarging the clamping surface of the g-clamp so it sat evenly on both of jaws of the vice.

I have a circa 10 year old Topeak pannier rack with MTX quick release bag, the latter of which is now very rattly when not overly loaded.

I've tried bungee cords, but these are too tight and deform the bag. I'm thinking a long velcro strap with a loop on the end so I can loop over the bag and under the top of the rack and adjust tension based on weight of the bag. Is there a technical term for this type of strap?

Any other ideas?

Ah, looks like I want a velcro 'cinch' strap...

Or a luggage tie down strap which you cut to an appropriate length to avoid excess flappage:

have a look at velcro 'one-wrap' - it's quite good for stuff like this.
hook on one side, loop on the other, just snip it to length.

When it happens to be that you are impatient cunt with no tools but somewhat creative.. Don't worry it was just to get the bolt off the axel with slightly busted thread.
