Ineos were the strongest in the final week as fully expected, but leaving it late made it more exciting. Don’t think that was their original game plan, but Bernal and Thomas were strong enough to get over the line.
Weird isn't it. Sean Kelly was saying the French press has been critical of Ineos being weaker: seems you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. I wonder if it was Ineos being weaker or the rest of the field being stronger. Whatever it made for a great race even if the result was the same.
At least there is no 'transformation' debate. Ineos basically bought in the finished article: Bernal would be winning GTs whatever team he went to. The irony is the TdF win came courtesy of two crashes: Bernal's which ruled him out if the Giro, and Froome's.
