  • Well with Basel I can definitely see the problem :P

Nah I'm also not in a hurry to go back now, but definitely considering it for a later stage of my life.

  • I'd love to be able to travel to swim more but family and work don't really allow for it at the moment :( Perhaps when the kids are a bit older...

  • Have always got the fear slightly, looking into the river whilst crossing over Hungerford bridge. Can't imagine how scary it must be to feel yourself getting carried away at that point.

  • Well, that turned out to be true.

  • They're not going to stop people swimming there, but they've just made it more dangerous so they can shift the blame to others.

To be fair the water level pontoon is owned and operated by a charity, Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activities Centre (SBOAC).

When they first installed a new pontoon gate and lock to stop people accessing the water from the pontoon someone used an angle grinder to cut through the new gate.

The pontoon is pontoon is for emergency access, use by disabled accessing the charity's activities and sailing sessions. It's thin concrete on top and can safely take about 30 people, at times there have been more like 80 on it. It's held by chains and ropes but there has been movement in the structure as a result of so many people using it.

There is a real risk that the pontoon will become overloaded with swimmers and topple over and I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that people might die if this happens. There is then a very real risk that this small charity gets sued for not preventing access to their pontoon.

SBOAC didn't create this problem, people who insist on swimming in the basin despite being told not to do so and that it is dangerous created the problem.

  • saw that today was very impressive level of a dig. just subtle enough not to be obvious

  • Berlin doesn't really need swimming in the Spree when you've got Müggelsee, Schlachtensee, Liepnitzsee etc.

    I miss Berlin.

  • Lots of internet chatter that many parties want Epstein dead before he spills the beans. Where are his secretly recorded sex tapes? What crooked financial deals did he make? Was he linked to intelligence? Whose intelligence, CIA, FSB, Mossad?

  • Hopefully we'll get some answers before someone tops him

  • He’s a threat to Prince Andrew - the lizard death machine is in operation, he won’t live to see a courtroom...

  • prince phillip does it in person, he likes it hands on

  • He's getting a bit old for that now, so he's graduated to crashing his car into the cars of his targets.

  • I can’t exactly say I wish Epstein a long and happy life, but I want to get at least a few years out of him now that we’ve got him and his friends by the balls.

  • Those are all a bit far away, but I have a great lido very close.

It's not just about swimming, the fish are dying right now.
The water quality in Landwehrkanal is so bad, there has been a boat pumping oxygen into the water for 20 years.

Lawyers for Nicholas Tartaglione, a former police officer charged in a
quadruple homicide case who is also at the jail, responded to reports
that he had been questioned in relation to Epstein’s alleged injuries.

“Any suggestion that Mr Tartaglione assaulted anyone is a complete
fabrication. This story is being leaked to retaliate against Mr
Tartaglione for complaining to the court about the deplorable
conditions at the MCC,” Bruce Barket said in a statement.

Get yer tin foil hats on.... Mob hit? CIA hit? Hydra?

  • Tartaglione is charged in a five-count indictment for a conspiracy to
distribute at least 5 kilograms of cocaine and "the senseless murder"
of the four men, which was part of that conspiracy, U.S. Attorney
Preet Bharara said in a statement. The former cop pleaded not guilty
to the charges at his arraignment Monday.

  • A lover, not a fighter...

  • The Epstein story is horrifying and fascinating in so many ways. I found the Behind the Bastards 2-part podcast on Epstein an interesting/saddening listen and a good introduction to the extent of the case, his crimes and how lax the US system to those in power/with money (I guess it isn’t too different on this side of the Atlantic either).

What I found incredibly interesting from the above-mentioned podcast was the mention of Epstein’s mid-00’s case in which a non-prosecution agreement was reached shutting down the FBI case into Epstein, concealing the full extent of his crimes, and granted four named accomplices’ immunity along with anyone else involved whom the Government hadn’t found out about (approx 30mins into part2 of the below)

Coincidentally, the attorney who brokered the team with Epstein went on to become Trump’s labour secretary.

    Tin foil hat much?

In other news, wasn't it nice of all the red tops to celebrate Prince Andrew's 33rd wedding anniversary from his divorced partner recently?

  • Coincidentally, the attorney who brokered the team with Epstein went on to become Trump’s labour secretary.

    Who just resigned.

  • The tin foil hat comes from the theory (posted somewhere upthread) that actually Epstein was nothing more than a highly successful blackmailer - the financial services element being a front for the payments. Given his list of 'clients' it's pretty quick to fill in the Hollywood trope style blanks. Whether it's true remains to be seen - but it certainly is more plausible than most internet conspiracy theories.

  • Once you go down the Ghislaine and Robert Maxwell rabbit hole things get even weirder and the links to same Russian mafia boss Semion Mogilevich that Trump has extensive links to

  • That plus the fact that there are people from the financial industry quoted as saying they've never come across his financial services as an actual thing. If he did provide them, they were certainly very elusive. Not that this proves anything, but it does point in the same direction.

Also, I don't think this really is in the realm of 'tinfoil hat' stuff - it's certainly just speculation, but it doesn't seem that implausible and it's not the same quality of 'conspiracy' as, say, "aliens are kept in Area 51".

  • aliens are kept in Area 51".

    Pfft.

    Pope. Catholic.
    Bears. Defecation in woodlands.
