  • Yeah some nice elements here! I've seen the 1019 that @inchpincher posted below but with a black dial alternative and that looks great.

Red printing model name wise tends to always work for Rolex.

  • Finally got round to putting the strap on that @aggi also got.

Much better that the original one. I do like straps that team up with the face or bezel.

    Thanks!

  • state of that keyboard :'(

  • That looks great. I was rolling with a brown leather / brass nato which looked good colourwise but felt a bit functionally odd wearing leather on a diver. That strap ticks all the boxes.

  • Looks good. It's really stiff to start with but breaks in pretty quickly.

  • Not mine - but nice

  • Any idea of the reference? There’s a lot of bits that are very un-Heuer.
Edit: found it, it’s the ‘Classic Monza’

  • My wife has an old manual Ingersoll watch which has stopped working, its obviously worth bugger all, but has significant sentimental value, so would like to get it repaired, any recommendations of where to take it? The complication is that we are not London based...

  • Here in Swindon I’m paying £50-60 for a service on the Lincoln watch. Again it’s ‘low’ value compared to this thread’s mainstays. I paid around £100 for each Omega manual wind I had serviced too.

That’s with the local reputable watchmaker, sure you don’t have anything similar?

  • We are struggling to find anyone local. Do you have details of your Swindon place, as we are up that way occasionally for work...

  • Popping you a message now

  • Thinking about getting an Orient Bambino with a silver/white dial for my upcoming Black tie event... failing finding an economic vintage alternative. This would work right?

Would put a black strap on. Also, the Orient is about $168 delivered to aus... seems a bargain.

As a side note - does "Black tie" preclude a dark navy tux? ( I don't normally do formal events...)

  • If it's black tie, aren't you supposed to not wear a watch at all?
I would try to get something smaller. Vintage watches that measure about 28 up to 33mm are plenty and cheap.

  • Curse you, you actually made me want a rolex! The purple dial is lovely.

  • Out of curiosity I popped into a place in Brisbane that services automatics, they quoted me a minimum of AU$750... 😂😂😂

Joke's on me tho', I meant to bring the Gothmariner with me so I could get it done at Alsal... I forgot, decided to bring the Casio as my holiday watch...

  • Other than having a date the Orient is a good shout. Although not having a watch is a sensible option if you're struggling, and better than wearing a steel sports watch.

    My 2p.

A dinner jacket is meant to conform, not stand out.

A blue one may have been a cool move if you'd worn it immediately after Daniel Craig. It won't be now.

Ideally you want the most common style of DJ that is in keeping with current trends - bow tie on the smaller side. Single cuffs. No ruffles in the shirt. Slim lapel. Etc. (I assume this is all still current).

  • @TRA The traditional dinner jacket comes in midnight blue rather than black (so as to appear darker in artificial lighting). I think blue looks smart - I have a blue velvet dinner jacket with a notches lapel and a black wool one with shawl. I’d say go for it if you like it

  • This worked its way onto my insta feed. Maybe of interest to London types

  • Haven’t worn this for ages. Not sure if I really like it that much but it’s super comfy on the MN strap.
