Yes I can see why. But I had no problems for a year up until May, when I had to jettison my mudguard half way round a ride when a cable tie snapped and it was in danger of fouling my front wheel. I must have had it mounted differently but not sure I CBA to faff around with it to find out what I did.
I expect I had the clip thingy mounted in front of the fork rather than behind so the mudguard was rotated forward a bit, so the stays were a bit higher and so clear of my foot.
Other thing is that my new shoes are slightly wider at the toe.
I've got quite big feet so the toe overlap is just not worth it. I did try a guard again on the new bike and it was connection city so I ripped it off again immediately. I often scuff my shoes with the tyre.
