I like my Brompton, but it does seem to need a disproportional amount of fettling.
-
• #6953
6 is a genius combination of both.
2 speed gear pusher is a great design, set up right all it needs is a squirt of gt85 or similar once in a while.
-
• #6954
Agreed.

The catch and hook are only cheese if abused.
The sleeve, how else do you suggest? It’s essential and works, u less you don’t look after it.
The rollers, yeah I hear that, they really need to stick the bearing wheel on there.
B75, I like and dislike it, it sells though and does open a new price point.
The nickel has only had a few small runs and now no more, but agree too many limited editions for my liking.
You ridden an electric Brompton? We have one and think it’s great. What don’t you like?

The original wee roller wheels on the rear triangle were designed not to be rigid, else the shock of hitting a drain cover etc while rolling the bike would go directly into the frame and snap the mountings off. I’ve seen plenty of bent/broken ones over time. The newer ones are a bit more robust, but just go for EZ wheels. Much betterer.
My 2-speed has been pretty reliable tbh. Some plastic bits are a bit shit, and what annoys me most is the way that if you forget to unfold the pedal and spin the crank around, the folded pedal smacks into the frame and takes big gouges out of the paint. A bit of shit design there.

How much is a 6 speed superlight going to cost? Looks like you have to spec a 6 speed then do the ti upgrade
Weighing up whether to do this and then a few upgrades or order a Chpt3...
If i buy new that is.
-
• #6958
About 1700 quid, you can only buy superlites from brompton.com or junction stores at the moment because their supply is rubbish and they don’t sell their dealers with just 1 bike or something when the supply is not very good. CHPT3 if you want that look but it’s a lot of cash for a paint job
-
• #6959
Chpt3 not toooo bad then.
Better saddle, grips, tyres, paintjob maybe a few other minor details for £200 extra. -
• #6960
Made sense when you got cambium and ergons, the fabric finishing kit is shite (imo).
Possibly sell the saddle to some millar/chpt3 fan boi tho.
-
• #6961
If you like the grips and saddle yes, the tyres are cool, but you can’t get spares...!
-
• #6962
So there's no way of us plebs getting tanwall Brompton tyres? Boo.
-
• #6963
No way of anyone getting them!
Kojaks no longer, One tyres will be in very limited supply
-
• #6964
Give how popular bromptons are its weird how limited the tyre selection is.
-
• #6965
There are a few coming onto the scene but yeah I totally agree, it’s just frustrating that Brompton limits the supply of Tan wall stuff when it’s clearly so popular
-
• #6966
Should I auction off my tan Kojaks then?
-
• #6967
Yes
-
• #6968
Brompton thinks they are Apple and like to control the product end to end but fail miserably.
-
• #6969
I've both an M6L and S6LX and the few hundred grams makes a massive difference if you are doing a lot of carrying. 500 grams in a water bottle in your bag doesn't sound much but add it to the bike and you really feel it. Doesn't really matter a jot if you're not carrying it tbh.

• #6970
There are better products such as an airnimal.
-
• #6971
Ew.
-
• #6972
What is everyone’s consent with replacement of Brompton Chain? My one is officially ruined/over stretched. Should one just replace like for like?
-
• #6973
Any 8 speed one, kmc one for about £15 is ideal. New chain = new sprockets too though!
-
• #6974
Do the sprockets wear that quickly? Note I am used to the sa 3 speed sprockets.
Also wipperman chains have the tester seal of approval ;)
-
• #6975
Run the chain to 100% worn and change both, yes, the new chain will slip it past 75% worn previously.
Things to add to your list: handlebar catch (made of cheese), main roller wheels (they don't work), sleeve/insert (why?!), front axle hook (again, cheese)...
B75 - Regressive manufacturing (old levers, no mudguards), Endless limited editions (which are repeated, think nickel) and the Brompton electric which took nigh on 14 years to develop, mooted as the next big thing but is not really great for the price tag. Halfords tie up (...)
CSB. I actually really like Bromptons (I don't work for a dealership and neither am I wanting to sell you anything)
