Agreed, which is why I think it's absolutely correct that May is still backing him. It's his job to say these things. The leak would seem to be neither here nor there.

I have no idea. I think the source of the leak is relevant to domestic politics, but internationally our response should be "Yes he said that, it's his job to be honest to his own government. So what?"
