  • Why do you think it’s him? What does he have to gain from the leak? I think Iran is more likely. Regardless Darroch should go. It’s email 101 that you don’t send out highly sensitive info to a huge cc list, especially for the biggest diplomat in the game!

    Enjoyed Trumps tweet in response.

  • Does stink of political machinations more than an attempt to destabilise an alliance. Farage has been angling for Darrochs job for a while and it would suit Boris to have a more pro-brexit and pro trump diplomat to help any future trade deals post eu exit, especially as Darroch had another year left on his contract.

With regards to the email, what he said was embarrassing for both parties but not exactly revealing. He’s paid to provide his honest opinion of what’s happening over the pond and he did so. Not entirely sure how diplomatic cables are distributed but it would seem more likely he sent the memos to foreign secretary and they were distributed as was seen fit. And worth remembering that both hunt and boris will have multiple inside contacts from the foreign office.

  • Seems like a huge risk for either hunt or Boris at this stage of the leadership contest with very little gain. I still think it looks like either Iran, Russia or wiki leaks testing the water .

Encrypted or not, everyone knows if you put something in print it can be shared outside of your control. So you do it over the phone or you’re clever enough to write it in a discreet way that conveys what you want to say. I would have thought the our top diplomat in the most important role could manage that. His rag to riches story is bollocks too. I don’t know why May is still backing him, another national embarrassment.
