  • Thanks both @FourGreenFields and @hippy for the very positive comments on the route and the insightful reports, even more excited to be setting off next week to tour the route in a comfortable 10 days.

However I was thinking of tweaking the route slightly, spending more time in Spain at the beginning, potentially offroad, and then merging onto the race route somewhere before/after Andorra.

Would I be missing out on epic scenery if I was to merge onto it at say Superbagneres? Apparently that is the first point where to cross the border west of Andorra.

  • To be honest I don't think you can go to far wrong in the region no matter the route. The first night and morning of the original route was probably the most "forgetful" because it was either done in the dark or there were slightly better parts later so a tweak to the route doesn't diminish it in anyway.

Any reason you are so keen to go gravel? The roads are very quite and the biggest danger are the goats, cows and sheep that are meandering around - watch out for those as you go down.

  • You can leave Andorra via Port de Cabús and follow it down to LLavorsí. Then take the C13 to Esterri d'Aneu and follow the C147 up to Montgarri and on into the Vall d'Aran. This is is part of the route of Pedals de Foc. When you get to Vielha head to Bossost where you turn for Bagnères-de-Luchon.
