NRR could be significant in the worst case scenario of India losing their next two games (local rivalries against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) and Pakistan beating Bangladesh in their last game.
With ~10 overs to go they were only one wicket (Dhoni) away from exposing the tail. Losing him could have led to a collapse that would have just put unnecessary pressure on the last two games and given Pakistan hope.
Dull as it may be, the percentage play is to keep the NRR loss low which means the pressure will be on Pakistan to go all out against Bangladesh (assuming India lose against Bangladesh, which is looking unlikely but not impossible, they've certainly been slowed down).
Why haven’t India given it a good old crack here?
Bowling had been decent but their fans deserve to see them go down fighting.
