  • @russmeyer It's a little bit nippier and the smaller footprint makes it marginally more manageable to store etc... Unless you carry voluminous loads very often it's a sensible choice.
The extension bar is very useful too, just pull it when you carry larger loads.

  • Wheelbase essentially. The handling is a lot more agile, tight u turns, maneurverability, feels good having the front wheel closer. Super easy to pop the front wheel up over a curb while riding, and lift the back too, where as the cargo is much longer and sort of required the wheel to do most of the work.

It also has the same capacity as a cargo because you can use a cargo rack and extender bar like i did.

The Cargo feels really long, and turning is slower (less reactive) at slow speeds, due to the wheelbase. Its probs more stable at speed, and the front wheel position makes it less likely to tip forwards if loaded heavily in front of the wheel. But if ur hauling something that big, uve probs got buddies to help getting it on and off, and you wont be flying at speeds that require more stability than what the mini max's wheelbase already offers.

But what also had a lot to say was Jimmi had this one in the basement with sliding dropouts, allowing for lots more tire clearance.

  • I am wanting a 20" (406c) dynamo front wheel for my cargo bike. Any suggestions for off the peg? Or rim hub combo for self build?

  • Yea good point on the storage thing. Mine comes into my workshop in my apartment once in a while, and if i had the cargo it wouldnt fit around the corners in the stare well, or in normal bike parking racks outside.

Yea and im not carrying massive loads all the time on it. Primarily my son, bikes, wheels, and some furniture.

  • Ok, thanks both.

  • stare well

I just keep looking at that

  • Eye see what you did there.

  • I ordered this one for my cargo :

mounted on a sp dynamo with sapim spokes, ~150ā‚¬ the wheel.

  • Thanks. @jesperxt found be some Ryde Andra 40 I am going to give a go I think.
I might go for SP again or try one of the cheap CNC Bike's dynamos

  • @Lolo do you have a pic of yours with a child-carrying setup? I take it you have mini-max?

  • I have a Ti Mini-max set up for child carrying. I used a modified Halfords bike trailer. I've cut down the wheel mounts and the trailer arm mount and these now fit nice and snuggly in the cargo frame dimensions(this picture is before I did those mods). The steel frame of the trailer is then secured using two heavy duty ratchet straps round the cargo frame. I can pick the bike up by the trailer with out it moving and it's a 30 second job to remove it and reinstall, once you've done it a couple of times.

I used the trailer mainly because the Mrs insisted that it had to have a canopy if it rained. The little ones very happy in it and tends to go straight to sleep, we've done a 40 mile round trip to the Grandparents and back without issue.

  • Yeah I saw this one too but choose the other : lighter, wider and alternated holes, useful on small wheel I think. Plus I wanted the same rim on the rear, the weight loss is even more noticeable.

  • Yes, mini-max, but the baby isn't born yet! I'm planning to strap a car seat first, then I'll take it from there. Currently the Yepp plate is only for the cargo, but I have seen it adapted for mini-max.

  • Currently the Yepp plate is only for the cargo

Yeah this is odd, I'm assuming it's because of the top of the headset protrudes so far from the forks. It looks very over engineered, I'm wounding about getting one and either modifying it, or using it as a template to make my own.

  • Ok thanks. Food for thought

  • You'd have to make a hole for the headset, and also turn the plate (there was a post last summer in the Omnium International Owners FB group). I think it wouldn't be too expensive to have a transversal plate welded onto the rack, and drill it to secure a seat of some description.

  • This is the omnium one ive modded. The hole where the headset sticks up used to be square, but doing this spoils the option of mounting the yepp maxi seat as it should have used that square cutout. However, the yepp maxi NEXT model clamps from the outside, so it wouldnt be an issue (would have to change the webbing though). Im just using mine to have nice solid base the carriage can sit on.

    @Lolo Tillykke!!! :D

  • Oops. The Canadian in me is kinda embarrassed, the Dane just says "meh, u know what i mean"

  • Thanks for that picture really useful. Gives me something to think about when I move on to a Yepp nexxt maxi seat

  • And thanks for your inspiration and help on specs regarding the Ti mini max a while ago!

  • with great sadness it looks like I will have to sell my 8freight to cover some bastard bills
Ā£720 for a bike that can effortlessly carry 100kg of anything, yet still zip pasts nodders on Q1
parking brake, remotely operated kickstand, twin monostays, flat load shelf, and my love included
