Didn't stop Max Hastings printing dePfeffels fanciful anti-EU prose tales, though, did it?

BBC R4 World Tonight
Laura Kuenssburg interviewing dePfeffel.
The dissembler admits there is 'no magic bullet' to solve the border on the island of Ireland.
I can only assume someone within his campaign team dared him to say this. -

*Q: So why the picture today?
Johnson tries to change the subject. “The longer we spend on things ...”
He refuses to say where the picture came from.
He claims not to have seen most of today’s front pages.
Q: But you knew the picture was being put out there?
Johnson says there are all sorts of pictures of him on the internet that pop up from time to time.
Q: Did you know this picture was out there?
Johnson says he knew that picture was out there.
Q: So when was it taken?
Johnson refuses to say.
Q: It is not recent, is it?
Johnson says this conversation is “descending into farce”.
Q: This is an old picture, isn’t it?
Johnson refuses to say. But he says he no longer has his hair cut by the “Turkish chap”.
Q: So this is at least six weeks old?
Johnson refuses to comment.
Johnson refuses to deny that his team supplied a picture of himself and his girlfriend, Carrie Symonds, to the media that was intended to show they were reconciled following their row on Thursday night. The Evening Standard put the picture on its front page yesterday, saying that it was taken after the row and that it was intended to quash reports Johnson and Symonds were close to breaking up. But today Johnson refused to deny claims the photograph was several weeks old.*Decending into farce.... That horse bolted 3 years ago....

Boris Johnson descended into farce when he became Mayor of London, if not before.

This is a fair observation. Johnson looks like he is dead inside. He might at last be beginning to realise that being PM is difficult if you are a bullshitter. Sadly, it seems like he will have to learn that the hard way (i.e. he will become PM), and that we will all suffer from his delusion. Exactly the same pattern that we had with Cameron.

Isn't this the weekend usually when the papers publish something about one or other of the candidates to finish them off? Wonder if there's anything lined up for Hunt.
Are they having a go at Johnson before the ballot papers go out? I thought it would be Hunt that would be getting a hammering, yet I've heard nothing about him. I don't imagine it will make a difference, but surprising nonetheless.

I was a little surprised by this too, I would have thought Boris was ‘their man’

Maybe they've been speaking with Max Hastings...

I read that article this morning. I wonder what else he's got in his private files:
in my own files I have handwritten notes from our possible next prime minister, threatening dire consequences in print if I continued to criticise him.
Here in case it's not been linked already:

Gove/Sarah Vine and Murdoch are super tight though. I reckon he’s behind a lot of this.

I saw it had been published in the Graun. But I'm sure he put out something similar a few days ago somewhere else, even before his piece in the Sp*ctat*r: "History will wonder how we trusted Boris with Britain". I guess he wants everyone to hear!
Edit: It was in the T*mes on 10th June

But does anyone really believe that the suffocating weight of evidence that the guy's unfit to run a bath will make one whit of difference to the Tory membership?
-
• #469
Not a chance. It's probably more a case of the press setting them up to say "I told you so!".

So, that shit about painting buses on boxes - utterly demented bullshit or what?
-
• #471
Just him trying to remind people he was responsible for eco friendly buses, and someone had already said they liked running in fields
-
• #472
"He says he likes to unwind by painting passengers enjoying themselves on his model vehicles."
It sounds like the sort of thing you'd get inmates on a high security ward to do to keep themselves busy...

for eco friendly buses
Which were one of his greatest failures, in a mayorship which was a great big bag of fail. He knows that he's not talking to the Londoners who know this, just people who have seen him waving from the back of a Routemaster years ago - so he now paints it as a triumph.

Yes, but as which one?
Johnson seems less able to double down on them. Trump would have been out in front of the argument story either denying it or making it into a joke. Controlling it for his base to lap up. Johnson just looks a bit worried and hoping for the best.
