  • Bit of an open ended question, but how do people deal with burnout/coming down after a big race? Work has been really busy, ankle feeling a bit thrashed, and generally feeling like I'm not up to running. Had a week off but now feel more tired than I did after the race! Do people wait until they feel more rested, or is it a case of having to force yourself to get back out? Even a week off feels odd at this stage, and I feel like the fitness is going to fall away, which is particularly hard after it felt so hard to earn in the first place.

I get this all the time. I think it's pretty natural as you're looking forward to this big goal and everything you are doing is working towards it. then suddenly the goal is gone and you're knackered so there's no motivation to get out for a run.

I havent run since Endure24. Still don't feel like I've caught up on sleep (will I ever with two kids?), and legs certainly haven't recovered. I haven't really had the urge to go running so don't mind too much. Will probably go to the club tomorrow and take it easy but that might still be too soon. Won't know until I try.
Don't worry about losing fitness, you need to recover before you start another block of training so take the time you need and go when you feel up to it.
